Do you remove the mounts that are safety wired when installing the Jag rear?
I don't want to remove the factory mounts unless i have to. Do you remove the safety wired bolts to install the Kirkham mount?
|
I do not know what you are asking check out the two pictures in my gallery. I removed all the bolts put on the adapter and put the bolts back.
|
The only safety wired bolt on mine were on the differential itself and I left those alone. I just bolted the top and bottom mounts to the diff and muscled it in there.

Safety wire is used primarily on hard-to-reach bolts that may not be inspected for up to twenty years and/or 200,000 miles in some cases. While primarily aircraft industry standard, automotive use is not widespread (Indy Car, formula and many endurance road racing classes use safety wire extensively). Cobras are maintenance-intense cars and may not require extensive use of safety wire, the one exception being the knock-off wheels.
With that said, Jag rears have many somewhat hard-to-reach bolts and would benefit from being safety wired. |
All the mounting bolts for the Jag to the Cage were saftey wired. The bolts look sort of like lug bolts on a german car but with a hole for safety wire. They are tapered just like a lug nut and fit into a slightly larger hole to self center and not ever move. I was going to use the lug nut bolts and safety wire them.
