ps. certainly not Jessica Alba

Well, the copper bodied car was expensive, so what about a silver or gold bodied car?

Trevor Legate 02-15-2008 10:02 AM

Copper-bodied Edsel? Different and reassuringly expensive

1ntCobra 02-15-2008 10:30 AM

Let's see Pete Brock and Keith Craft are speaking...

Pete used to be involved with some Japanese sports car after working for Shelby right? Perhaps its a gold bodied replica of one of those cars powered by a Keith Craft built Kirkham billet aluminum block FE with an aluminum frame?

David or Thomas are you listening. Robert

GT40's were fiberglass

RodKnock 02-15-2008 12:04 PM

....over a monocoque (sp?) shell. Certainly the K brothers could produce an outstanding car, even if the have to outsource the shell.

But with Brock and KC speaking, would lead me to believe DAYTONA....how about a SuperCoupe????

BERT 02-15-2008 12:11 PM

Original and recreations GT40 are fiberglass, yes. But my KMPGT40 will be aluminium because thats what the Kirkhams do better than most do. Robert

Lew Ledyard 02-15-2008 12:12 PM

The Daytona is old news. It will be there. I have a feeling that something else will be there as well. I guess that we will know tomorrow.

ENTDOC 02-15-2008 01:30 PM

I do not think the Kirkhams are inclined to recreate a classic out of materials that did not exist in the originals, and the Monos were steel , not aluminum. It would be an expensive proposition and inaccurate, not a good combo. Besides, SPF already does the GT40 the way it should be done, extemely accurate, much like Kirkham does cobras.

csx700? 02-15-2008 02:37 PM

the original gt40s used a pressed steel chassis tub assembly (with roof) and fiberglass panels for front and rear.......

Tom Kirkham 02-15-2008 02:55 PM

The Alan Mann light weight GT40s had aluminum bodies. I have also been told that aluminum tubs were made.

BERT 02-15-2008 02:56 PM

OK, maybe the "shunk works" is not building a GT40. How about a 1958 Ferrari Testarossa or a P-51 Mustang ?

Tom Kirkham 02-15-2008 02:58 PM

BERT,

No, at least not this week.

ENTDOC 02-15-2008 03:10 PM

MK IV's I believe had a honeycomb aluminum structure mono I think. RCR already does a nice aluminum mono chassis GT40 in MK1, MK11 and MKIV. I am not saying an aluminum bodied GT40 from Kirkham would not be great, I am just saying the cost/ units sold might be prohibitive for Kirkham in an environment where there are wonderful examples already being produced, one of which is is a continuation car approved for the SAAC registry(hard to one up that)

Now we're talking! :) Would LOVE to see someone try to replicate that gorgeous body without getting Enzo's attorneys all upset. Next to the Cobra, probably the SEXIEST car coachwork ever assembled. Just wow...

Motors are too few and too expensive.

GlynMeek 02-15-2008 04:01 PM

Motor/schmotor...SURELY we could squeeze a chevy into it somehow...LOL :)

Wizbamsc 02-15-2008 06:07 PM

Tom, You guys working on that MKIV you've been talking about?

427sharpe 02-15-2008 08:18 PM

How 'bout a lightweight Jag , the D type I think?
