Hi from new guy

I take it I am supposed to write some kind of intro for myself before I begin asking a raft of questions and opinions. OK, here goes:

-57 years old, retired Federal worker (US Army aircraft devices, and logistics computer systems)

-living in Las Vegas for the third time. First came here in 1969, left, came back, left, came back...

-Joined SCCA here in 1971. Used to do some stuff at Stardust Raceway. Got more involved in SCCA in St Louis. Was a corner worker, F & C Chief, then a Starter, then raced a Formula Ford, but not very well. 8 years racing a Sentra in Improved Touring, did well enough to take two Midwest Division IT championships in 1998.

-Owned a varied succession of cars - '57 Chevy, '65 Mustang, TR-3, Spitfire, MG Midget, 914, '67 Corvette convertible, another 914, assorted Mustangs including a '68 California Special, '69 AMX 390, '72 Dodge Demon, '76 Porsche 912E, '68 AMX 390, now another '57 Chevy and a '64 1/2 Mustang.

-It must be a couple of years ago now that I stumbled across what must have been a FFR event at the LVMS outside track. I spoke to a couple of FFR guys about foot room for people with size 14 shoes because junior was thinking about cannibalizing his '90 5.0 to build a roadster. Saw some very nice cars, and maybe that is where the desire started to germinate.

-I have seen scads of Cobras both real and replica over the years. I have lost track of the number of times I have taken guests through the Shelby facility. I attended SAAC 32 in Utah last month and saw that FFR owners weren't heaped with scorn and derision, no acts of violance against those that would own a copy.

I think I would like to try my hand at something current and new, rather than dealing with 40 year old drive trains and sheet metal. Even an incredibly complex full size hobby kit can't be as bad as deconstructing a rust bucket and trying to resurrect it looking like it rolled out of Dearborn. I need a break from that.

If anyone is still reading this, are there some local, fairly recent Mark III roadsters in the Las Vegas valley or close by? In any stage of completition is certainly ok. I have the latest (two week old) assembly manual, but I would like to see some of the work that is needed to complete one. Private email is fine to jerryandsheila@embarqmail.com.

Thanks in advance,

Jerry,
The Las Vegas Cobra Club is a very loose organization. No officers, no regular meetings. We generally meet at Screwballs once or twice a month for breakfast and a run. However, during the hot months no one wants to drive a car in 110 degree weather with no air conditioning and hot side pipes radiating heat into the cockpit... go figure! When we do, someone will post here that it's time to meet and suggests a local run. Give it a month, six weeks.

We also have a website www.vegascobras.com. You can see what memebers drive what cobra. However, all communication is done here or by phone.

Welcome back to Vegas.

Thanks for the reply. I don't live far from 95 and Durango, so I think I will stop by for the Mt Charleston trip departure to see what everyone is driving.

Hi Jerry, Saw your post just now. Welcome! There is one build that is almost complete that you might take a look at but you've got to hurry. He's leaving to pick up his body Thrusday morning (tomorrow) and then all will be covered up. Then there is one more under construction and I'm not sure where's he's at just now. I'll send him your email so you two can get together.

As Scott said we'll probally start getting active when the weather cools down. We're a pretty diverse group. There are show guys, cruising guys, open track guys, breakfast guys both with and without Cobras. You'll also find a several makes here also. FFR's, Superformance, ERA, B&B, Backdraft, Classic, Kirkum and probably some others.

Just keep an eye on the forum and we'll get together sometime.

Doug

Welcome back, Jerry

Welcome back, for as many times as it takes to get you to see the wisdom of your ways . . . LOL.

If you look at the thread just above this one, you'll see that some of us are crazy enough to go out in the 117* weather . . . Mt. Charleston was a bit cooler though, only 93* that day. Scott and Doug and the guys are right, we don't usually try for anything collective in the HOT! months. Some of us (Doug) have air conditioned garages and can do "summer upgrades", most just wait it out.

There are a lot of various brands of Cobras' in town to look at and I know all here will be happy to show you their's . . . from "donor builds" to $100K masterpieces.

Like Doug said, there are definately split groups with a lot of cross-over. Racers, cruisers, 100 mile breakfast (like, let's go eat breakfast and then go to Laughlin) guys and the occasional car shows.

Keep checking this forum and the www.vegascobras.com site and also the www.ffcobra.com, "southwest" region and you'll for sure find an event or gathering coming up real soon that you are more then welcome to join so you can put faces with cars and posts.

Hi Jerry

Welcome back. If you are looking for a Superformance, I have a pretty nice one I am interested in selling. It's #864 with very low mileage.

Jim
