My Trip
I went to the show in 2007. We had a great time then. For a variety of reasons , we have not made it back until 2021
I was trying to decide if I should trailer or drive. I watched the weather forecasts very closely. Finally, Sunday night I decided to trailer. The forecast was for rain every day. By towing, I had meals, luggage space, and a place to sleep. Other than a little traffic, the weather was good all week. I should have driven the Cobra. https://i.imgur.com/Rq2KCqO.jpg I wandered my way east. drove slow to save fuel. Stopped to visit friends. Rested when I felt like it. It was a good trip. Arrived in Dublin, OH, on Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday afternoon, I went to the cruise-in in Centerville. Some pretty interesting cars there - besides us, of course. https://i.imgur.com/oLNeS30.jpg I love this car. If I ever build another car, it will be this. https://i.imgur.com/unBNV5t.jpg Saw this car, pretty interesting. An AC Ace, Mk V. That's right, Mk V. There's only two in the US. https://i.imgur.com/vCOzjIy.jpg https://i.imgur.com/BhqGHn7.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Zh8tZdL.jpg https://i.imgur.com/xl4L13p.jpg |
Friday morning, I went on the Hocking Hills tour. Very nice. Roads were not as nice and the Rockies, but I enjoyed it.

Some good food trucks. Good music. Nice people. Great cars. https://i.imgur.com/zcdVxDC.jpg https://i.imgur.com/60KOMV7.jpg https://i.imgur.com/8PWmokM.jpg |
Saturday - of course - is the Big Show. this is what 150 Cobras and Coupes looks like
https://i.imgur.com/tnwA4g8.jpg https://i.imgur.com/wrmHsuP.jpg Someone had a drone up, and the video is pretty good. It might be on you-tube. My lovely daughter. She was able to drive up from Lexington, KY, to join me. Loved that. :) She is my favorite daughter. https://i.imgur.com/95s8FLw.jpg I'm not too keen on the diamond pattern. Looks like packing blanket to me. https://i.imgur.com/FOWQVpp.jpg But I did like the dash https://i.imgur.com/LO9eX1Q.jpg This FFR carbon fiber dash looks really good, too. I'm thinking about this for my car. https://i.imgur.com/EVeL1b4.jpg This is different. I kinda like it. I'm considering this, too. https://i.imgur.com/YNSK5mV.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Qrw3Dem.jpg Don't see this every day https://i.imgur.com/KUUseyy.jpg Or this https://i.imgur.com/e2eKmFy.jpg This white pearl was stunning. https://i.imgur.com/b96LUlZ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/9mlsV2k.jpg |
Saturday night was the banquet. Food was actually pretty good. The Marriotte did a very good job of feeding that many people.
https://i.imgur.com/4YNIulf.jpg https://i.imgur.com/E1dsDhf.jpg Karen Salvaggio was our first speaker. Way back when, I built my second Cobra kit, a FFR MK II. Then I decided to race it. Everyone told me I should pick a different car: Aerodynamics, short wheel base, old technology, etc. About the same time, I started reading about Karen, and her first car - the blue one. She was racing, and she was successful! That meant it could be done. I ended up winning 6 championships with that Mk II. https://i.imgur.com/ylxVbrY.jpg Our second speaker was Stacey David. I've been watching him for decades. I learned a LOT of skills from him. And I used those skills to build and repair multiple vehicles. https://i.imgur.com/zZ0g24Q.jpg |
Sunday morning, and it was time to go home. My daughter and I had a nice breakfast, and then loaded up the trailer. I didn't leave town until about 1130.
The trip home was a little more eventful. Big traffic jam in Huber Heights, OH. https://i.imgur.com/pOkOB7Q.jpg I have no idea what this is. Looks like electrical insulators. But why a rotating shaft? Never seen this before. Probably space aliens. https://i.imgur.com/6ZAff63.jpg https://i.imgur.com/fBAqPlZ.jpg In the middle of MO I shredded a right rear trailer tire. I was able to pull off the highway and change it without difficulty. https://i.imgur.com/Vld8eyF.jpg Did a little bit of damage to the fender, but easily fixed. https://i.imgur.com/UXsMnXK.jpg Monday Morning, I stopped by Discount Tires in Blue Springs, MO, and bought 4 new tires. That's when we found this on the left rear. https://i.imgur.com/mQ22cJY.jpg https://i.imgur.com/XuXdbtK.jpg I was able to find a trailer parts store in Lee's Summit that had exactly what I needed. https://i.imgur.com/oOd5vUl.jpg But now it was really starting to rain. https://i.imgur.com/YvnmTzR.jpg But, had to fix it anyway. Glad I still had this canopy attached! https://i.imgur.com/UwpFAKd.jpg With the tires, repairs, and the rain, I was delayed 4-5 hours. So I stayed another night in the middle of KS, and got home Tuesday afternoon. Except for the one day (Monday), the weather was really good the whole trip. I should have driven the Cobra. :) If I was in the Cobra, I would have been moving along a lot faster, and probably would have missed most of the rain, anyway. Oh, well. Maybe next time. |
Nice job of documenting the adventure, Bob. That takes time and patience to bring back those parts of the trip for the rest of us. Interesting spinner on the AC Ace. Obviously no ability to safety wire but the look is clean.
Wraps, when done properly, always look good. The job that 5 AM Vinyl did on the white Daytona for some reason impressed me. Maybe because it is invisible to the eye?? Thanks for taking the time and effort to document the adventure for the rest of us. Ed p.s. Trailers seem like they are made to break ... |
I took that same picture of the Boss 504 motor in that car. It was a good time. Lot's of very nice people.
|
Bob, very nice recap. Did the inner ring of your wheel bearing weld itself to the spindle? Happened to me a couple times and I didn't like it
|
Great share! Many thanks
|
Bob I wish I had met you at London. I was a few tables away Saturday night but I did not know you attended the show.
Sorry I missed you. I've been following you on CC for years. Next year? |
I actually got a ride in the wrapped Daytona. My first LCS. My Cobras in paint so flew to Indianapolis and rode with a friend. I'm thinking it won't be my last. I was amazed at how far everyone traveled first, and second how friendly and helpful everyone was. Great show, thanks for the pics!
|
Great accounting of the event, Bob! Thanks!

Bob I've had to either spend lots of time with a hammer and chisel (side of the road), some very careful dremel work, or a torch and puller, if I was lucky enough to get into the garage. Ugly work but at least the two times they caught fire, were minor.

Man, those orange colored ones sure do pop!
