Rear Axle Brackets

I'm in the process of assembling the rear axle, and I've got a question about the 2 degree angle of the pinion.

According to the assembly manual, the angle is measured two degrees positive from the flat surface of the back of the 4-link brackets. However, when the rear is installed in the frame, the pinion angle is several degrees negative, which leads me to believe that the angle should actually be measured from the centerline of the bolt holes in the brackets, NOT the back of the brackets as implied by the manual.

Any verification of this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Mark
