Rev Limiter

I have a 392 crate motor in my LS427. It looks like they put a Ford factory ignition module in with a buil in rev lmiter. Seems like if may max out @5500 rpm. would like to bring it up to 6500. What's the MSD part number for the module that will fit

You probably have a 6al box. And if so, it's a small white two prong plug, (about an inch long) on the side. It will read on the top what the rev limit is, or you can remove it and have no limit at all...just be careful.

If you have the stock Ford Distributor

Keep it. Many cobra owners on this site have sung the blues about engine damage caused by incompatibility of drive gear materials in mis-matched aftermarket distributors. The 6AL internals are what you need. This is the system I have along with a Blaster 2 coil. The 6AL gives you "cushioned" rev-limiting which reduces the chance of engine damage

The (better) Ford motorspors box is a 6AL, but blue; not a Duraspark. It accepts standard MSD "pills" that you can buy anywhere in 200 rpm increments.

You can go to their web site at www.msdignition.com. they have tech line products ect.

PS By the way, I had mine at 6300 rpm and still broke some valve springs. I changed it to 6000 rpm.

Mine's at 6000 also

Someone once asked me whyI did not have a 6200+ limiter.. did I not want to get all the horsepower out of my motor? Well since my rebuilt (514) motor maxed HP/Torque at about 5800 (on the dyno) the limiter is perfect @6000. I don't need a broken engine, I want to actually drive it now. Fancy that! %/

Keep the box and install a 6,000 rpm pill. If you max out on HP/Torque at 5500, you don't need any more. I have friends that have blown engines, chevy and ford, buy installing higher than required pills in their box. Most good drivers can get a gear on the money, but you have to consider missing a gear, return spring breaking and other little gremlins that happen. This little box and pill can and will save you thousands.

Just my 2 cents
