This is the New Route with only the changes highlighted:

Southern State Parkway West to Meadowbrook Parkway North
Meadowbrook North to Northern State Parkway West.
Northern State Parkway West to Cross Island Parkway North.
Cross Island Parkway North to Whitestone Bridge.
Over Whitestone Bridge entering the Hutchenson River Parkway.
Hutchenson River Parkway approx 7 miles to Cross County Expressway
Cross County Expressway approx 2 miles to Sprainbrook Parkway North.

Approx 15 miles merges to Taconic State Pkwy North (Sprainbrook & Taconic are very scenic highways)
Approx 25-30 miles to Route 202 West. Getting off Taconic this will be a left turn at the light.
Approx 2 miles bearing right to follow signs to Bear Mountain State Pkwy
Approx 3 miles up a mountain road making a Right across bridge - Signs say Rte 9 North
Crossing bridge go 3/4 around traffic circle to Rte 6/Rte 202
Camp Smith military base will be on the right after traffic circle. Hudson River will be on the left .
Approx 4 miles along Hudson River make Left over Bear Mountain Bridge.
Continue halfway around traffic circle follow Rte 9W South/ Haverstraw
Short distance to bear Right at the light following Seven Lakes Drive.
This road will take us into bear Mountain State park.
Pay $6 at booth per car. Proceed straight 1-2 minutes looking for Parking lot #2.
( This lot is the most convenient parking where we can picnic and still see out cars)

Tony.....excellent suggestion and edit to the route. I usually do take the Hutch to Cross County to Sprain heading upstate . I guess I was not thinking when I laid out this route. Thanks very much for taking the lead.
I got spun around with some family matters but still now intend on making the trip so I can assist you up front or perhaps take the tail .
Looks like terrific weather ahead !!!!

Should we gas up before heading to Nicks, or is there a fuel stop planned when we leave?

bobbycobra 07-06-2007 07:46 AM

Gas up before hand Sal, we hop on the parkway right from Nicks.
