I'm not too knowledgeable on African rallys, but these photos of the cars going thru rivers, etc. are spectacular.

Good to see the old mustang prevail against the more traditional rally cars. For me seeing the pictures of the old Ford Escort MK1's in action was a delight. Hi-po versions of those (Twin Cam, RS2000, etc) were hot setups down in these parts when I was a kid.

Wow, that is really neat. I read that it has a 400 HP 302.

I found some more photos:

Note the additional shock absorbers, front coil over shocks, Also those have got to be the stoutest traction bars I have ever seen.

Got to love those 6 bolt Toyota pick up rims. The additional hood tie down is kind of vintage too

A real bruiser. I wonder if those extra diagonal shocks are intended to deal with the upward-backward forces on the suspension generated by hitting "road irregularities" at high speed. I may look into adding a set on my Cobra just so I don't have to worry about dodging every single pothole on our piqturesque but less-than-perfect (putting it mildly) roads.

Six lug hubs (look like Nissan style) on a Mustang, front and rear coil overs...with mudders! THAT is definitely a first! Here in the Dallas area there is a Ford Rally Falcon that ran the European Rally schedule in the early 60's, including Monte Carlo (which is where the 'Monte Carlo Bar' nomenclature on GT350's came from BTW) and it makes the R model GT350 feel plush by comparison! Can't imagine beating one of those things thru the mountains for HOURS at a time!

Wow, what a neat thread. A real treat to get the day started. :)

Great Pictures. That must be a fun race but hard on both car and driver. They used to show those on TV here years ago but for some reason don't show them any more.

Ron :)
