sorry i didnt get back sooner but it took all day for my hands to thaw out so i could type again.............
Joe what town are you from in NE. I think it got up to -3 today......... Ron i had enough of that toolie fog in the valley between Sacto. and Stockton........that stuff was like driveing in pea soup........... but i do mis the 100+ temps in summer in Sacto. |
Bob,
When I lived down by Fresno we used to have some fog, but I remember pulling off the highway and stopping when I had to go to San Francisco a couple of times because the fog was so thick I couldn't see past the front of my car. The rest went right on at their 60/70 MPH as if it was a clear day. Then you would read about a 40 vehicle pile up. Some people just seem to think that because fog isn't solid you don't need to slow down. We normally don't have much fog up here and what we do have for the most part follows the river and there will just be thick patches of it across the freeway in places, but they are normally not very long. These past two days reminds me of the Valley Fog. Ron :( |

Grand Island...........headed there on the 17th for a BBQ with the rat rod clan........
been thrue Ord and Greely a couple of times looking for rusty old cars..... Ron.....the Yolo causway is always bad for fog ....i remember a CHP officer got killed there one time when they had a big multi car pile up........ I delivered glass between Sacto. and Stockton for 10 years so i dont mis the fog at all......... |
I'm feeling downright guilty the weather has been so decent around Medford, Oregon lately. Lower to mid 50's and reasonably dry. I've been out riding the motorcycle lately.
I STILL feel a little bit weird though when I remember and know that Hawaii hasn't got a clue what the mainland is going through. The biggest complaint there is that the trade winds might have slowed or stopped and the cool breeze is gone. Man, I really really miss that... :) |
:)
Don't worry Ernie, you will get your chance at some really crappy weather before the Winter is over. Get your snow blower now before the first one hits. By the way I like your new Avatar. Ron   |
So is Ernie trying to tell us something with his new avatar ????
weather update for Nebraska.........still freakin cold....... its 30 degrees today, thats a 40 degree temp. rise since yesterday morning.....global warming is back....maybe. |
Bob,
Where is the Rat Rod meeting at in Grand Island? I haven't been up there for a couple of years. We were talking about going up there for vacation this year, but I think plans may have changed. The vast majority of my family still lives around Grand Island on my Dad's side and Red Cloud/Hastings on my Moms side. |
From down here looks like those Florida SnowBunnies have bought the snow with them this year!!:cool:
|
I saw pictures on TV where the orange growers in Florida were spraying their trees with water and letting the mist freeze over the oranges to protect them from the real cold. I remember the smudge pots and wind machines they used to use in the Fresno area to keep the fruit from freezing but that is long gone now.

That sounds as if it would work as well if not better than the wind machines as the helicopters have a huge down blast of air plus they can move around. The wind machines were on poles and could only blow one direction through the orchards.
Ron ;) |
It works well, but the fatigue level for the pilot is high.
|
No doubt. I am no pilot but I have ridden in military helicopters and the pilots told me they were the hardest thing going to fly. Also the ones I rode in while in Korea were super noisy.
Ron :o |
