This is just another model - possibly valid, useful for maximum disaster preparedness evaluation, interesting in any case... but just a model. Could happen next week, next year, next never.

What gets me about these things is the so called evacuation plans. Just how long do you think it would take for the highways to be jammed by some crazy person causing a wreck. Same for the evacuation routes here if the dam burst. I would be more tempted to take a bicycle and start out to the higher ground than trying to drive out of here.

That is one thing that I never see planned for. The accident, the impatient guy who tries ramming his way through to get going faster, the road blockage by anything really. What happens then?

I was at Ft. Lewis when I came home from Korea and the rain was what kept me from taking a couple of job offers I had up there. It is beautiful country but I would almost swear it rained at least a shower every day. I did go to the Olympia Rain Forrest and that was interesting. And of course it was pouring rain all day that day. :)

Here the evacuation plans for San Francisco in case of the big one are a joke. For one thing 90% of the darn city is on fill dirt and the only road that doesn't go over a bridge breaks in even the small quakes. I watched a show where they talked to the San Francisco Fire Chief and She said it was a city built to burn as all that fill dirt turns to mush when it is shaken and the lines will be broken all over. I remember seeing the runways at San Francisco Airport always being shut down for repairs because of big cracks and when the tide is in they are just a foot or so above the water. Heck, the bridges are falling now and there isn't even a quake to blame it on. The Bay Bridge is getting old and has a lot of really unsafe areas.

I saw that on one of the disaster shows Ron. One of the end the city monster quake shows. They talked about how bad it was after the 1989 and the 1906 earthquakes.

I just saw in the headlines where they had a big cave in at San Antonio I think it was. What happened there? There wasn't much about it in the article. Just a picture and a few lines. Guess they couldn't wait to find out as they had to beat the competition to getting the headlines.

I had not seen that Ron. I know the area is full of natural underground caverns. Every once in a while they find a new one. Just North of SA there is a park called Natural Bridge Caverns that is a tour through some natural caves that they have found. Me and the wife did 2 of them one afternoon. 180' down in one but not steep and quite long to go down and back up the other side. The other was 120' down and it was a winding staircase they built. It was narrow in places and just went down. You had to turn around and climb the staircase back up. Very exhausting afternoon. Went back to the hotel and went to sleep about 4PM
