Union Members Must Be Proud
This is another reason why unions have outlived their usefulness....
$659,078.00 for him to sit in a rubber room rather than an unemployment office. New York Teacher Still on Payroll Seven Years After Being Banned From Classroom Tuesday, February 09, 2010 Three strikes and he wasn't out. At the beginning of his 32-year career as a math teacher in Queens, Francisco Olivares allegedly impregnated and married a 16-year-old girl he had met when she was a 13-year-old student at his Corona junior high, IS 61, The Post learned. He sexually molested two 12-year-old pupils a decade later and another student four years after that, the city Department of Education charged. But none of it kept Olivares, 60, from collecting his $94,154 salary. He hasn't set foot in a classroom in seven years since beating criminal and disciplinary charges. Chancellor Joel Klein keeps Olivares in a "rubber room," a district office where teachers accused of misconduct sit all day with nothing to do. The DOE insists it can't get rid of him. "The department's hands are tied by state law and union rules," said spokeswoman Ann Forte. She said tenured teachers can be fired only if an arbitrator approves. "The department twice tried to terminate this teacher, and both times, an arbitrator decided to keep him on the payroll," she said. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,585295,00.html |
If these charges are true, why isn't he in prison?

The WHOLE STORY in the NY Post explains how it was legal technicalities that kept him out of prison.

Hmmm, if he had been a "man of God", he (and his support system) would be paying the victims instead.
I vote for the baseball bat. Mike (yellow journalism my arse) |
Darn, I never heard of anything like that. Become a teacher, get banned to the rubber room and then just sit all day and collect your big salary. Sounds almost like a political thing to me. And what are the so called arbitrators raking in for not letting the schools fire them?
Ron  |
Hopefully the "rubber" room is emitting some sort of bad fumes that will shorten his stay on earth. I vote for the baseball bat for all of them........!

Fred, Heck, no the unions aren't proud. We are more embarrassed for our flock, than a pope, over stuff like this. That guy wouldn't last two minutes where I work  .....nor probably at a wild UAW meeting either. We got to keep in mind, not every union member, or priest, is as saintly as you and me, Fred. Of course, to be honest, I have had impure thoughts about 13 year old females. I think I was 13 or 14 myself at the time. And, in all honesty, I still have an instinctful healthful appreciation for blossoming youthful beauty. I would be lying if I claimed otherwise. But the vast majority of adult males, union members included, know better than to act upon these instincts. The harm to burgeoning attitude is a lifetime injury, and we all know and abhor that fact. We earnestly seek to protect our young. I've got to agree with Ron, what the heck is the matter with the arbitrator and/or justice system?? This is just weird. And I suppose we should throw some liberal union B.S. in here too. Here is a guy that thinks the teacher is in the rubber room for parade-ability. I hope this has nothing to do with keeping the guy in the limelight at public expense, but you never know. Wes ... |
