Another Big East Coast Storm

And the East Coast just keeps on catching it from the weather. Are there any trees left standing in these areas? I hope that everyone comes through this one ok.

I lived through one of those once on the North Shore (Swampscott/Marblehead, MA). Craziest storms you have ever seen. The Nor' Easter is a storm that gets "stuck" off the coast and sits there pumping moisture, waves, wind and downright destruction back to land.

Oh, and as it turns out, the one I experienced was the one the movie "The Perfect Storm" was made about.

Mike,

That is interesting. I have watched that movie several times and liked it. But I don't recall seeing you in it.

That is the main reason that I never wanted to live back East. Just one Winter there was enough for me.

Ron :)

Yeah, this really sucks.

My pumps are keeping up (I had a drainage system put in a few years ago), but I keep calling the house to verify that power is still on (answering machine picks up). Otherwise I'd be running home to fire up a generator.

A lot of folks have had massive problems. Someone down the street from me had guys in hazmat suits cleaning out their basement last week after the last storms.

I think I'm getting mouldy...

One Nor-Easter after another. I'll be pressure washing the mold off the house twice this year..:mad:

Steve & Undy,

I hope that everything works out ok for both of you. With the Winter you have had, if the Summer is as bad you may have to go somewhere to cool off. Take care and be careful.

I was in Connecticut for Sub School in the Navy when that one hit. I remember a wave that hit and severely damaged the old lighthouse. Prior to that you used to be able to go out and take a tour. After it was closed down. I never went before and I have always regretted that. I love history, so there was a little piece I missed out on.

As for the guys up there, good luck and I hope this passes without any damage.

I received an e-mail from Freddie Douglas. He said most of the bad rain missed his place but he is enjoying sailing in those huge waves. I always knew that Navy people had to be a little crazy. The worse the wind and the bigger the waves and breakers, the more he likes it. He said he never had anyone pestering him to go out on the boat with him, so there area few sane people in that area.

Steve,

I hope that all of you make it through this ok, but it sure sounds as if it is going to get worse before it gets better. I was looking at some of the pictures they have posted and it is a mess for sure. Best of luck to all of you in this area.

Hey, I resemble that remark.

I saw some pictures this morning where they were rescuing a guy who was sitting on his SUV, The waves from the prop wash from the Helicopter were washing over his legs. You could just see the green roof of the SUV through the water.

Ron61 03-31-2010 08:02 AM

Joe,

I saw that and some where the streets in town looked as if they were about 4 to 5 feet deep with running water. What a mess that is going to be to clean up.

Ron
