Megayacht "A"

I often stop at pigeon point on the way home when I'm driving the Cobra and yesterday we were treated to an unusual sight. Although megayachts are very common in this beautiful, sheltered anchorage which is also the entrance to the Rodney Bay Marina, the strikingly unusual profile of this yacht had many taking a second look and quite a few photographs.

It was a hazy day and I only had my phone, so the pics were not great, but the classic lines of the Cobra contrasted sharply with the radical, nuclear sub shape of the futuristic vessel.

Here's a clearer pic of "A" off the web. The master suite, replete with a huge rotating bed, is behind the top row of windows in the "coning tower" superstructure.

Owned by Russian Billionaire Andrei Melnichenko, the 394 foot "A" was created in part to one-up the 377 foot Pelorus, which belongs to fellow Russian Roman Abramovich. Abramovich has now commissioned a new yacht dubbed Eclipse.

Here's a look at Eclipse:

Talk about keeping up with the Jonseviches! Eclipse, at 577 feet, is designed to be the largest private yacht and is also festooned with multiple helipads, mini-submarines and an anti-missile hull. Perhaps the most interesting feature though, is the anti-paparazzi laser defence shield (no kidding!!) which can detect the CCD's or focus lights on digital cameras and neutralize them with a fucused burst of laser light. The system deploys automatically, but the crew, which includes a handpicked team of former French Foreign Legionaires, can activate it manually if they see any photo hounds getting too close for comfort!

:D

Buzz,

That is a great picture with your Cobra in it. As for the yachts, when are you going to one up them and get a larger, more luxurious one?

Ron :D

Very cool picture..I do like the shot of your cobra best..the big boat is just another over built floating object.
I was thinking about installing one of those Anti Paparazzi Laser Defense Shields systems on my cobra, but then it wouldn't look original and I also can't afford the crew of French Foriegn Legionaires.
HARR MATIE !

Buzz 04-02-2010 08:11 AM

Ron - I'd like to but right now I'm busy thinking about one-upping Patrickt by adding a second and third roll bar to my Cobra. One step at a time, right? Bill, my anti-paparazzi defense system consists of putting on a pair of dark sunglasses and a Johnnie Walker ball cap. And I'm with you on the legionaires thing - but I do occasionally travel with a lil' french foreign model named Natasha in the crew compartment (passenger seat). :D

Here's a nicer pic of the Cobra without the yacht. Too bad about the haze - Sahara dust in the atmosphere we're told, believe it or not.

Buzz ... it would be real cool if the anti - paparazzi laser vaporized them instead of just blinding .

Another roll bar ??? Why don`t you just build a complete cage around the car and then dare Patrick to beat that !!

Bob

Buzz 04-02-2010 05:09 PM

LOL! Are we talking about the camera or the person using it? The burst of laser light supposedly blinds the camera, not the photographer; but yeah - holy shyte - can you imagine if the laser was kicked up a few notches? Here I would be innocently snapping a shot of my car with the boat in the background and ZZAPP!!- No more Buzz.
The thing to do would be to get someone you don't like to take the pic..."Ahem - would you mind snapping a picture of me over here standing next to my car - make sure you get that nice boat in the center of the shot..."

:)

Buzz,

That last picture of your Cobra is really nice. You live in a great place for sure.

If you want to one up Patrickt then just add a larger engine with more power and a complete roll cage. You need to do some photo shop work and really depress him.

Ron :)

Bobcat 04-03-2010 08:38 AM

Buzz ... don`t believe you have to worry about the laser if you keep your car in the picture . With the new paint job and the extremely high luster on it .... and your " reflective " personality , the yacht would be the one zapped when the laser was bounced back on them !! Just try to avoid being there on an overcast day , unless , as you said , you don`t like the person . :D
