Lincoln Aviator Question

I just picked up a 2003 Aviator... very low miles. It does have the infamous liftgate applique crack. I want to get the panel, reinforce it and reapply. But I can find nowhere on line where to buy it. Any of you have any sources? Yes, I can go to local dealer... $200 for parts (including emblem) but it still has to be painted. I guess I could go that route and install it myself (after I have made sure it is reinforced).

What? Nobody knows a super secret way to order such body panels? Yeah, the Lincoln dealership has them at $160 and $35 for the emblem. And it still has to be painted. They use to sell them pre-painted.

Just thought some of you might have the decoder ring...

Mike,

Have you looked at any of the car sites that cater to all makes? Maybe one of them would have some people that would know how to find what you want.

Ron ;)

Sure hope your jaguar transmission lasts longer than mine did. Lincoln knew there was a problem but wouldn't fix it.Local tranny guy said repair was about $3,800.so I traded it in with only 26,000 miles on it!

Mike,
Contact some local wrecking yards. I know that out here on the left coast they used to have a network where they put items needed over the air and the other yards that have them let them know where one is. Of course they are probably all linked on the internet now.

The transmission in my 2002 Explorer started to act strange in 2nd gear. It would not shift into 3rd unless I lifted my foot off the gas. Then the "O/D off" light started to blink and the "check transmission" light came on. The dealer said that the intermediate gear brake band or band brake is at fault. The parts are only $400 but the labour is $1500. OUCH!!!! A rebuilt transmission is $2,900 plus labour. OUCH, OUCH!!!!!!

The truck runs like new so I am getting it fixed. The mileage is 147,000 km which is about 90,000 miles.

Wayne
