Ford To Discontinue Mercury

The Mercury brand was dropped up here in Canada a few years ago. The dealer network was balanced out with some closing and some taking on Ford cars as well as the Lincolns that they already had. It looks like Ford used it's experience up here to get rid of Mercury in the much bigger US market.

Yea I saw that this morning on Yahoo. Kinda sad. I was hoping for a Mercury Cougar update based on the Mustang again, but no such luck.

I don't know about the rest of the state, but the Mercury dealer here closed a couple of years ago. They just weren't selling hardly any cars at all.

They had a little more style than a Ford, but were primarily just re-badged Fords. At least Lincoln changes enough things to make their cars somewhat different in terms of the overall build.

The Mercurys were built at the same plants as the Fords were. Most styling differences were just bolt on pieces that were actually interchangeable between the car. Sometimes you may have had to change the front fenders, hood, lights grill and bumpers or they would not fit, but it would be a direct bolt up and the harnesses would all fit. All the Unibodies were the same as a Ford Variant, but a base started out as a mid-well optioned Ford.

This body has been dead for 20 years, things finally started stinking enough that they had to bury it. I hope everyone bought Ford stock when it was $1.50/share.:3DSMILE::3DSMILE:
