8 Dead In California
I have always said, "someone is gonna get hurt," when I see rallying. Now here is another form of racing where spectators get to close, Off Road.
"Some witnesses said they got within 4 feet of the unmarked track, watching trucks fly through the air over a series of jumps." http://www.ajc.com/news/nation-world...ls-592203.html |
You have to wonder what people are thinking by getting that close.
It's a shame what happened regardless. |
Evolution at work...
I pre-ran a major part of the Baja (up to Mike's Sky Rancho) with a client in a two-wheel full-sized pickup. Burros and cattle even know to stand back a ways. |
I guess this makes a young man macho. Watch these fools in action. It must be the first truck going by that wrecks judged by the photos I saw.

A few years back when the Group B Rally were raced in the FIA Rallys, there were simular accidents. Eventually the governing body started sectioning spectator viewing areas for safety. From what I saw on the news, crowds lining the course and Alcohol were the main faults. The Driver was where he should have been, the spectators should have followed the rules of 150 feet minimum from the racing surface it would not have happened.

Some people are just idiots !
Although I feel for all the families that lost their loved one's in this tragic event, this is in no way,..... the drivers fault ! If you stand that close to the track, with race cars speeding by at 100 mph, what the hell do you think is going to happen ! %/ Many people attacked the driver to the point of knocking him out after he exiting the truck. WHY ? If people actually think that standing so close to the action is fine and have no chance of getting hurt or killed, so be it. Yes, the race promoter should have done more to protect the fans but, it would take hundreds of track workers to try & regulate the 100' safety zone. Even then, fans would just come back anyway. Now because of these idiots, the race may never be run again. If you put yourself in front of a tiger, someday you'll get bitten ! IDIOTS ! A beer, a shoe full of sand and 3000 lb truck...life is good, well maybe not.
