Little old Gus

I think my 16 year old Minature Pinscher Gus may be leaving us today. He developed a rattle in his chest that isn't getting better even after medication. His regular vet is back in town today, so I'll be carrying him in at first light. The clock is moving so incredibly slow. I dread it because I already know what he's going to say. I'm so depressed I can hardly stand to be in my body. I forgot what it was like not having him around. We're empty nesters and he's done such a great job to fill the void for us. I knew this day would happen sooner or later - but why now? I am very sad.

I'm sorry for the pain you are going through concerning Gus.

Sorry to hear about Gus ... we really get attached to our buddies , don`t we . I lost my Dobie a few years ago and it really hurt as I had him from 8 weeks old and he was with my wife when she passed away while I was away on business. The only consolation I had was that at least I was with him when he went . Gus will be with the people he loves ... if it comes to that .

I just put my 7 tear old female Pit down last weekend (way to young) after a year of treatment for cancer. I spent 25k on her treatment, and she got a good quality year of extra life. Without the treatment she would not have lasted more than a couple months. She only had a couple bad days during the last year. The money was well spent IMO.

I just found out two days ago that my 13 year old Pit may have liver cancer. It's been a tough week. I feel your pain. My dogs are part of my family. I would do anything for them. Your dog sounds like he has had a good long life. That is what I try and focus on. Good luck.

You guys are phenominal pet owners. My friends thought I was nuts for spending $5K for spinal surgery when he became paralyzed in all four legs. I'm happy to report that his vet shot him up with some antibiotics and he seems back with the living. When I carried his limp little body back to the bedroom this morning, I was convinced he was a gonner. It looks as though the clock will tick a little longer.

That's good news. I would do anything for my dogs. Good luck to both of you guys.
