Drove a Porsche 911 today (2009)
Drove a 911 Porche today, gorgeous car. I was very very impressed, here was a beautiful car, you drive in the rain, the sun, etc. It carried the same price as a new SPF $61K. I got in and fired it up and it sounded great, the leather seats were not to cushy but not to hard, had a strong racing theme about it. I took off, as fast as I fell in love I fell out. It was plenty fast but after about 15 miles it was just drive, it was civilized, I was numb to the experience. Jumped back in the Cobra, stinking like gasoline, no ac, no windows, just rudeness and took off wonder when I and where I will breakdown:LOL:, I obviously have a marble loose because I always find myself looking forward to a cobra ride but I am pretty sure the porshe would just become transpertation.
I have no idea if the 911 is reliable or what maintenance cost but I guess until I grow older the Cobra still has me wrapped around its sidepipes. |

Maxx, Look at the Panamera Turbo as long as it's in your budget. It's an outstanding family car with 500hp and plenty of torque. This way you have the best of both worlds. I did and love the hell out of both the Porsche and my BDR.

I was in Germany last March and rented a 911. It was fun on the Autobahn but it didn't even come close to the Cobra driving experience. $ vs fun I'll take the Cobra anyday!

Porsche vs Cobra.....like comparing apples and oranges.
The Cobra is nasty, rude, loud, smelly, ornery, a chick magnet and a handfull to drive and faster than it should be. The Porsche is smooth, taut, sneaky, quiet, elegant, also a chick magnet, easy to drive and faster than it should be. My recently sold 996 twin turbo with a flashed chip and all wheel drive would show the Cobra the tail lights. My Boxster S, with 303hp, will out handle the Cobra all day long and if the straights are real short might be able to keep up with the Cobra. The tow car is a Cayenne Turbo S and it will pull the trailer and Cobra anywhere anytime and can accelerate with the load faster than most trucks or SUV's can without the load. So, a Porsche is a Porsche and a Cobra is a Cobra. Apples and Oranges. I want them BOTH and wouldn't be without either. |

I have a 911 S Cabrio as a daily driver, and while it's a great car it is dramatically different than the Cobra (as others have noted).
Driving the 911 is like listening to Mozart on your i-pod--by most standards, a very pleasing experience. Driving the Cobra is like being front row at a Guns N Roses concert--a much more intense experience. |

Ive haven't driven a cobra yet but Ive had plenty of Porsche. The older ones reak just as much of gas and exhaust. The best Porsche I can think to compare to a 65'cobra is a 73' 911 RSR. Compare it to a 993 TT and you got yourself a refined rocket. Ive got an ongoing 73' RSR project with a 96' 3.6L engine. It should be pretty wicked!

The 1996-1997 993 TT is different. The 1997 Turbo S is much more valuable. You can't really compare a 1965 Cobra to a car that is 30+ years older. Good luck on your RSR. The 1996 3.6L has hydraulic lifters which will not need re-adjustment every 5000-7000 miles. Completely different...
Max...the Porsche (with a s) is a GT car....you could drive it across Texas on any day in any weather....the SPF.....not so much.... 911's are like nothing else in the world....and besides, you can drive them downtown and no one gives them a second look...I like that....:JEKYLHYDE
