First Two NASCAR Races
Ok, now that they have ran the first two NASCAR races, what do you think of the two car break aways? I know the trucks haven't changed, but they will most likely change them sooner or later. Their race was more like normal for them, but the Nationwide Race really showed what two cars can do versus the old long line of them together. I am actually looking forward to todays 500 race as I want to see how the cars do running that far. I am not a Kyle Bush fan, but he and Logano sure had the switch worked out well.

Super speedway racing is boring no matter what they change (watched it anyway though).
Even with the multiple two car breakaway's, it did not stop the big one's. JMHO |
They need to re-name it for what it really is. The Daytona Demolition Derby.

It was nice to see someone new win for a change....

I agree with the other Bob. Nice to see someone new win the race and the Wood Brothers back in victory circle. Was it just me or did the race seem boring until the last 20 or so laps? I was rooting for Kurt Bush and thought he was going to win with about 1 lap to go, but those Fords were just a little too much. The other Bob Q.

Not impressed with the way NASCAR is trying all the new crap. The race was not very enjoyable to watch. 78 lead changes means nothing. The two by two racing is not exciting at all.
Just glad the Blue Ovals took the top three spots. Edwards is your week one points leader. |
Daytona is nice and boring...good race to work in the garage while it' going on
and get something done. %/ Give me the Short Track Boys ! :D Bill |
I thought the racing was better than last year, but the two by two car running really strung them out over a big part of the track. And I was happy to see the Woods Brothers back in Victory Lane. However I didn't notice any let up in the laps under yellow. Why can the road racers clean up a mess in one lap and NASCAR takes 5 laps at a 2 1.2 mile track to pick up a piece of paper? Also the crashes seemed to be about the same as always. But the front of the cars area lot tougher than last year for sure.

I couldn't watch the race but I am glad to see the Woods Brothers and Ford back in the winner's circle and that young driver (sorry I don't know his name, yet) on top. Maybe, just maybe, Jimmie Johnson's luck is going to not be as good as it has been the past few years.
I know that NASCAR has changed the body design somewhat and Daytona has a new surface but can someone explain why 2 cars were so fast? I understand 2 cars being faster than 1 but why were 2 cars so much faster than 3 or 4 or more cars? In the past, it was always a freight train - restrictor plate race with 5 or 10 cars hooking up to fly right on by the other cars. Now it is 2 by 2 by 2. Wayne |
Wayne,
The new front end is stronger and a little flatter so two cars can actually hook together. The problem with three or more cars is the 2nd car gets no air at all and from 3rd back they can't see a thing and really have no idea of what is going on in front of them. Also the fronts of the cars are stronger this year as they look like bulldozers going through the grass and come out with no damage or just minor damage where last year they would have been a wreck. I think this next race will tell a lot more about the new set up and how well it is going to work than Daytona did. Ron :) |
