Don,

That is a very nice camera and I looked hard at it before I bought my Olympus SP-590 which has the exact same lens and everything else, except I felt the Olympus was a little easier for me to get through the menus on.

Ron......any comments on the Olympus SP-590 software on transferring to the PC, etc., etc. Initially, the price of the Kodak seemed very competitive.

......thanks

Don,

They no longer make the Olympus SP-590. I got one of the last ones they had. You might find one if you did a search and some on-line camera store still has one or two.

As for transferring, I got the mini memory card and just hook it from the camera to the USB port and it transfers the pictures very quickly. And the price of the Kodak is very competitive. I also have an Olympus SP-800 camera with a 30 power zoom but don't like one feature about it. It has no view finder and the display screen is hard to see in bright light. When extended the full length the 800 is equivalent to an 840mm film camera lens. Needless to say, I have to use my tripod at anything more than minimum zoom on either camera as I shake so bad. The 26 power zoom is the same as a 676mm film camera lens and you will probably need a tripod to use it too unless you are very steady. I had a 200mm lens for my Nikon film camera and I had to use the tripod for that. As for the software I didn't load it for either camera as it isn't needed to download the pictures and I have a photography program that does all I need to do. The only thing I would suggest is that you check what kind of card the Kodak uses and make sure that you have a reader for it. My computer had built in card readers, but I don't use them as I bought a small one that uses the USB ports and it reads more types of cards, plus my printer has a card reader for several types of cards if I just want to print a picture and don't want to turn the computer on. And as I said above, the camera will come with a cable that you can plug right into it and then into your computers USB port to download the pictures. I use that method with the 590 as the mini card requires one adapter for the camera and another for the card reader, so it is easier to just hook the camera to the computer.

From what I did with the Kodak you are looking at I think you would be happy with it. The camera store here where I buy my stuff let me try one out for a day and it was really nice.

Ron :)
