Ford launches new 65 Mustang
Ford launches βnewβ β65 Mustang - Business - Autos - msnbc.com
Automaker offering factory bodies of original pony car Everything old is new again especially when it comes to the classic 1964-1/2, 65 and 66 Mustangs. Like many makers, Ford has a catalogue full of parts for those original pony cars, everything from brakes to seats. But now, it seems, you can even order all-new, factory-approved Mustang bodies rather than having to scrounge up rusted and dinged-up originals. _____ The 65 Mustang body includes virtually all of the original cars sheet metal from the radiator support to the taillight panel, including trunk id and doors. The only thing missing are the hood and front fenders, which are sold separately. The body kit costs $15,000 and is shipped directly to a customer. _____ Ford sees dollars to be made here. |

Nonetheless, a body-shell at $15K (+ shipping) will certainly put you upside down on the restoration. I'd rather just buy a restored one with an original VIN number. But I am a cheap consumer (with years of experience in the early Mustang). %/ |

I've always wanted a 1969 Boss 302. I found a perfect car once and decided to "think about it". It was fully restored and very nice. By the time that I decided to bring it home; it had already gone to a new home. Oh, and I am getting too old for a new project. :D |
I read that article and looked at the pictures and came to about the same conclusion. By the time you got it built and then got through the darn SB-100 number process out here you could have bought a real old restored one and not have the problems of building it and then trying to get this state to register it as a Special Construction Vehicle.
