GoPro Suction Cup Mount
 

Attempting to use the GoPro Suction Cup Mount on the dash of my daily driver, dash covering is less than 100% smooth. The mount will not adhere. Probably air leakage in creating the suction.

Hesitate to use the flat or curved adhesive mount, received the following from GoPro Tech Support. But, might have to just accept the adhesive mount could be permanent.

" The adhesive mounts can be pried off but it does take some force and there is a possibility of damaging the surface that they are attached to.

To remove the adhesive mounts safely, you can use a hairdryer or heat gun to soften the adhesive and slowly peel it back. This will not damage the surface and it will be unlikely to leave any adhesive on the surface. If any adhesive is left behind it can be removed using nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol or similar. Please check that the solvent you use does not harm the surface to which the adhesive is applied to before you start.

Please note, once you have applied and removed the adhesive, you can not reuse the adhesive. "

Any suggestions on using a GoPro suction cup mount for the dash with a surface less than 100% smooth. Attaching the mount to the windshield is an option, but visibility is impaired

This past weekend I attended the Lake George, NY Cobra Run and there were several Cobras with GoPro Cameras, They were mounted on the roll bar sideways. One of them buil its own rig due to the OD of the roll bar will not fit the camera brace. I have the same problem my roll bar has an OD of 3" and unless I rig my own brace it will not work. I do not suggest using any adhesive, more than likely you will damage your finish.

Where the problem is using the suction cup mount for the GoPro in my daily driver, on the dash of a Jeep Grand Cherokee which has a vinyl type less than 100% smooth covering.

For the Cobra roll bar mount, I have a device from i/o Port, there are two models.

GoPro has a tripod mount for use with above, along with their own roll bar mount: GoPro has a unique mount system used with the plastic housing for the camera.

Not wanting to attach the GoPro flat adhesive mount to the dash, which would have been challenging to remove, I used the suction cup mount from soloperformance on the top inside of the windshield along withe GoPro tripod mount and 3 way adjustment device directly underneath the mirror. The combination provides the flexibility for adjusting the GoPro camera both vertically and horizontally. The camera is easily removed when the car is unattended. Power cord reaches the 12v receptacle for charging the battery, or for using rather than battery power.

Suction cup mounts do not work on the dash as the dash material, daily driver, is simulated leather and not 100% smooth.

The Go Pro camera is mounted upside down. There is an option in the Advanced Menu Settings which allows for " Upside Down Video Image Mode ", eliminates the need to flip the video later on the computer. In this mode, the optional LCD BacPac continues to display correctly for in car viewing of the video being recorded., or playback without dismounting the video camera.

Mountguys suggestion:

Not knowing if any camera shake will impact the video image

Don, I don't even trust the suction cup on my brushed arruminum finish, which is pretty damn smooth, so I understand your situation with the dash.

With enough elbows, you could mount it on the inside of the winshield. I've done that on the Cobra, though I prefer the rollbar mount.

My roll bar is 3" od so that 's out if the question. I am using the inside of the windshield, or the most expensive tripod there is ---the wife**) although depending on the G forces the qulity of the video can be affected.

While the I/O Port Roll Bar Camera Mount has a max of 2", others have modified the base to accommodate a larger roll bar
