Scissors Lifts
Is anyone using a mid-rise scissors lift? I saw one installed in a shallow pit with a cover flush to the floor. Looked pretty cool!
The problem I see is the lift cylinders and arms are in the area you want to be working. Add the pit dimensions (approx. 44" x 81") and you would have a hard time getting a creeper under the car. Maybe jack stands arn't so bad after all? |
Sorry LodiWino but that is just too funny to us OLD guys.
Those lifts have been around for many years. They used to have them in what us OLD guys used to call "service stations". Actually thought about installing one myself, but it is really not cost effective. It would be a good conversation piece though. |
Terry, your right.
Wow, i haven't seen a grease pit since the 80's..... |
I have been using a Titan lift for about a year now. Currently my car is stored on it and has been since October. Its a great asset, makes ALL detailing very easy, both under car and sides etc. I live close enough to some major lift distrubitors so I could go look at several, such as Greg Smith, Complete Hydraulics. Could have purchased any brand but chose the Titan hands down. Others may disagree but that is what I have and its build super well. Link below, have fun!

As you noted, most mid-rise lifts have the scissors in the way. Here is one that solves that problem. I have a full rise that is similar to this. In my case, once the car is parked, I put blocks on the ramp at the locations where I want the car to be lifted. Then the wheels hang and can be serviced as well as under the car (the ramp is less than the wheelbase). This gives full access.
I don't know if this one is intended to work that way, but it looks like it. What I don't like about this one is that it has two crossbars on the floor, which prevents you from rolling in a creeper or transmission jack or the like. Auto Mid Rise Pad Scissor Lift - YouTube |
