Software to convert 35MM slides to DVD ?
Anyone have experience with Software to convert 35 MM slides to DVD along with scanners intended for the purpose, using auto load for the scanning etc ?
Aware of the services that provide the conversion such as Costco, etc., etc ......thanks |
The first task will be to scan and digitize (and then photo correct if necessary) the slides. I recommend trying to find a used Nikon Coolscan 5000 with the slide loader. I am using a Coolscan 9000 (the difference it takes medium format film).
It's a tedious task. I got started real good but have been doing it on and off for over two years. I estimate I have somewhere between 25000 and 30000 images to scan. I've nearly filled a 5TB raid box (4TB usable). Then once you have the images digitized you can use any DVD mastering program. Almost all of them have the ability to import stills. |
I looked long and hard at purchasing a scanner to digitize my slides. When I looked at the cost of purchase, the time commitment and my willingness to actually spend the time scanning the slides, it became clear if the slides were going to be scanned, I would have to go to Costco. I could see myself buying a slide scanner and the software become obsolete before I finish the job. Then you start to wonder exactly who is going to enjoy these digital copies? Go through the slides and only scan the one's you really want scanned. I quickly came to the conclusion vacation landscape slides were not worth scanning (Maybe Hawaii being the exception). It just takes so much time, money and computer HD space it is hard to justify. Oh, DVDs don't last forever either! They can age and become unreadable and the DVD technology is changing all the time so watch out for that too. I haven't finished all the slides I want to do, but spending time with my Cobra keeps getting a higher priority! Good luck.
