OT: Need some email help...
Alright, I'm asking for help from guys who are computer-smart.
I changed the name of my business, as well as my website. The new website is live, by the way: Lykins Motorsports, LLC With my old domain/host, I had a webmail system that uses something like SquirrelMail to do email hosting. I literally have THOUSANDS of emails along with a couple dozen folders. This webmail system does not export/import. So... The situation is that I have a new host/domain now, along with a new email address. What do I do? I can keep the older system and check it as much as I check the new system....but if I need to look back through past emails, I'll have to of course go back to the older email and look. I can set my new email up to forward to my old email, but then when I reply, it would reply from the old email address... ???? |
Are you able to remote log in to your email system?
If so you should be able to gather enough information to download everything into a local browser based email program for archiving purposes. I used "Seamonkey 2.2.1" which has the old Netscape style mail interface with a modern day front end. You'll need the following from your current email host: As an example Server name: mail.optonline.net User name: (insert your user name here) outgoing mail server: mail.optonline.net You will have to supply your password when you log in, but after that you should not need it as the system will remember it. Once the browser is loaded on your system, in the bottom left hand corner you will see a mail icon, click it and follow the instructions on how to set it up with your current server interface. I recently did this for my browser based email as a back up, works great as you can configure it to leave your emails on the server, as well as on your local computer. Hope you find this helpful. you should be able to set outlook to reach out and retrieve the emails from the old domain...if it is in fact still active. you then could have both email addresses being managed by outlook and then you could terminate the old one at your leisure when your sure your not getting viable emails from it anymore.
the key here is the Outlook software, buy it don't play around with the express....you are probably going to be in this for the long haul, so to pinch now could hurt down the road Bill.....Sea monkey? really?....are those the things we bought as kids in the back of Mad magazine? |
So are there any online email programs that would do this? Hotmail? Outlook? Live? I think Ron mentioned a couple of these, but I wasn't for sure if they were what I thought they were...
