California To Tax Texting
More money for the crooks in Sacrament to waste on their pay and pet projects.

never could understand "texting" , wasn't actually talking and hearing some ones voice an advancement in communication, texting is basically going back to Morris Code. simple solution, don't text
|
I have never sent a text and don't intend to. I don't even like a cell phone but have one just for emergencies like this Summer when the power and lines were down from the fires. I have never given out my cell number as I don't want to get calls on the darn thing. I would prefer to talk to people in person of if that isn't possible on a voice connection.

Think about it, this is a brilliant plan. They'll add a tax to each text message sent, which will reap millions of new dollars. Their stated goal to provide cell phone to people who can't afford one. Those people will then use them to ... wait for it .... Send text messages!
It's the perfect self licking ice cream cone. |
They mention a tax that I think already covers this. Since the text is associated with a voice line (ie, there are no text-only devices that I know of, except perhaps for one-way pagers), the "surcharge" as it appears on my Verizon bill should already be covering this. Maybe not in CA but in CO. It'd be easy to beat though, since they would probably attach the tax to in-state area codes. Just get a phone from somewhere else. We kept our CO phones when we moved and almost everyone I know has kept their old numbers.
One comment I saw on this on one of the news sites was "Yet another California tax. They would tax your toilet if they could figure out how to do it." I can just see it now, a web connected toilet that reports to the sewer plant when you flush. I ought to apply for the patent. |

Don't ask what else they can dream up to tax. Many people around here have sold their homes and left the state. I guess the next logical tax would be on the air we breathe. After all we take in oxygen and exhale co2 so along with cars I am sure they will have people going to smog stations soon so they can charge them for polluting the atmosphere. Half of the pollution in this state would leave if the morons in Sacrament would leave.
