Warren,

That shot under the tree is really nice. That must be a pretty old tree. Tru sent the Mt. Shasta Goddess an offering to move his rain up to your area. Getting cold here too. It was down into the lower 50s this morning. No rain in the forecast but it could start any time.

Went ahead and got the flu shot yesterday morning.17 straight years now.

Started in 1990,a couple of months before my son was born.
We owned & operated a grocery store in the Hill Country of Texas. With all the people I was in contact with and the handling of cash,I was a prime target for the flu.
With my then-wife was due in a couple of months with my 1 and only child, I hoped gettting a flu shot would prevent me from getting it and then passing it on to her.Figured that would not be good.

Whether it was due to the shot or not,I didn't and she didn't get the flu.

Fred,

I liked the other reason Texans don't get the flu. They are to tough for any virus to infect. Or Texas was to hot, I can't remember for sure which it was.

Got to agree with Ron, Warren, the shot of the car under the tree really does look well done.

Opening day, not sure I'm going to go hunting. Maybe tonight with Erich.

You all have a nice sunday.

The Mt Shasta Goddess has arrived. Very light rain but I'm going to miss my ride today.

The streak of 17 straight daily rides will be broken. Woe is me. Guess I'll have to watch some football and the NASCAR race.

Only 59 ºF outside. At least I got all the fall gardening done after yesterdays ride.

Ah, Ha. Tru's offering to the Mt. Shasta Goddess must have worked. It is actually really nice here today if all this darn smoke would just go away.

I can not tell you what I had to do to get her to do that.

The last two items are going to cost me, I can not fabricate them.

Sort of, I modified a Hurst handle. I was surprised I had one that ended up perfect for the job.

No, just a guy that went to school too long. Learned mill and lathe in high school, many, many years ago. I really think they should make all children, boys and girls, have four terms of shop class and then one term of basic auto.

My sons will probably have a bit of a problem with a mill, but they both have turned things with the lathe. Both have wrenched on their cars.

It is funny, but I watched two engineers try to change a flat tire in the parking lot and before they killed themselves, I had to intervene. One guy has the jack up-side-down and the other guy is jumping on the lug wrench to get the bolt loose...in the wrong direction.

Very scary what our world has become.

BTW, nice pic of you and your grandson.

Tru,

With the new cars, auto shop can only teach so much any more. You need to go to electronics school to learn to work on the darn things. It is really difficult to make a computer or chip on a lathe. One reason I haven't really bought a new car is I don't like the idea I can't see the engine, but know it must be under all that crap if the car moves. However the state is going to take care of all that as they will eventually ban all cars.

Warren,

Go for a drive while you still can. It was 50 here this morning and is just now getting to feel pretty nice. I can't believe I had to get out a long sleeve shirt. If I didn't have to be here to answer the darn phone I would go for a ride.

Well, it was 48 this morning, butr rained on my way in to work.

The basic auto class should be more along the lines of: How to check the air in the tires, change a spare, check oil and automatic trans fluids, change light bulbs and the easy stuff with a understnading of the fourcycle internal combustion engine.

My daughter always helps with any work on the cars. She helped me put the engine stand together, rebuild a Holley 4bbl. She is helping tear down an old block to build a replacement engine for the Cobra. She is always asking how this or that works. A while ago I had to pull the distributor cap to show her how that works. She remembers a lot of it. In another 11 years when she is able to drive legally, I think she will be well prepared to take care of the car. Even if she doesn't want to do it all herself, she will have enough knowledge she won't get ripped off.

I think all kids should go through at least a basic auto class too, as well as a car control clinic.
