Subject change,

THIS SHOULD SAVE ALL MARRIAGES

Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after the night at a business
function.

He forces himself to open his eyes and the first thing he sees is a
couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table.

And, next to them, a single red rose!

Jack sits down and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed.

Jack looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly clean. So is the rest of the house.

He takes the aspirins, cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror and notices a note on the table: "Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to go shopping - Love you!!"

He stumbles to the kitchen and sure enough, there is hot breakfast and the morning newspaper.

His son is also at the table, eating. Jack asks, "Son...what happened last night?"

"Well, you came home after 3 am, drunk and out of your mind. You broke the coffee table, puked in the hallway and got that black eye when you ran into the door."

"So, why is everything in such perfect order, so clean, I have a rose and breakfast is on the table waiting for me?"

His son replies, "Oh, THAT!...Mom dragged you to the bedroom and when she tried to take your pants off, you screamed, "Leave me alone, b*tch, I'm married!!!".

Broken table - $200
Hot breakfast - $5
Two aspirins - $0.25

Saying the right thing, at the right time... Priceless

Ron, do you have any hints for troubleshooting a Jacobs ignition? I had a blinking yellow input and no output. After checking connections I have a solid input but still no output. I am wondering if the usint was failing and the reason for the miss I was having. I did a compression check with the coil wire unplugged and I wonder if that killed it.

I couldn't get on the site at all yesterday morning as all I got was the server is down message. Didn't try yesterday afternoon.

Brent,

If you have checked all connections and everything is good then it could be the unit. I have never had one fail, but they are like everything and can go bad. Are you running the Pro Street? You can just wire around the unit itself and run off the distributor and the coil like a regular ignition and they will tell you if the unit is bad. I had a similar situation once years ago and one of the connectors in my trigger wire was not good even though it tested good with an ohm meter. Are you using a points distributor or a magnetic pick up one? The Jacobs will not work long with the optical type and tells you in the papers to not use them. Hope this helps.

All the way up to a balmy 37 ºF this beautiful morning. Guess I'll skip a ride today.

Boy, there was quite a few great football games on over the weekend (college and pro).

Ron, it is a magnetic pickup. I was going to bypass it, but I didn't have a coil wire for the old style coil. The old ignition is still in and I could bypass the Pro Street but I don't remember how it is all wired so I have to look it up. I guess I am being lazy.

HLC, one day you will slow down. The next day you will be back at it because the extra time will drive you crazy!

Brent,

You don't have to use the old type coil. You can by-pass the computer module and use the Jacobs coil. I have did it just to see how it worked. The older models were easier than the new ones as they had plugs that you just plugged together. The newer one I had to put a terminal strip on the fender inside and bring a lead to it so I can by-pass the computer if I have to. I would have to look up my wiring schematic as I drew it all out and put it in a book in the garage.

I thought about that, but I think it is the coil that's bad. Mine has a terminal strip so it should be easy to change over. Is must be, since that's why I left the original box in.

Just take the wires off the Jacobs coil and put them on a good original type coil for a short time. That will tell you right away if the coil is the problem. You can lay the original coil right next to the Jacobs long enough to start the car and see if that cures your problem.

Yeah, that's the problem. My OEM coil has a different connector than the Jacobs. I think I'll mess with it tonight. I could at least see if there is some spark going on.

It's nice here today.

Brent, there is a print of a 1965 T'Bird in my gallery. It has the old style ignition wiring if it will help.

Read my thread on What if.
