Is anyone following the Conrad Black trial? I'm wondering what people think about the whole thing.

I guess I am just out of touch with the world as I never heard of him or Hollinger International. I don't even recall ever hearing the name when I was in Chicago. Must be one of those Senior Recall Failures that I seem to be having a lot of lately. :LOL:

I read 3 newspapers a day and I've never heard of that guy, or anything about his trial. Just goes to show ya that the only good thing in Chicago is its restaurants, especially Gene and Georgetti's - ummmmmmm good. Eaten their at least 6 times, but the last one was about 10 years ago.

Black was a Canadian but relinquished his citizenship to accept a peerage from QE II. He is the latest in the Corporate Governance trials. The interesting thing is the way that the Attorney Generals office has plea bargained all it's witnesses in order to build a case against Black. There are some significant issues about the legal process and its subversion by individuals in power.

Actually, We have enought wacked out self centered losers who originated right here in the good old USA. I guess the media feels that we have enough to deal with from here, that we shouldn't have to worry about goofballs who originated in Canada

He sold off a bunch of the newspapers "Hollinger" owned and then diverted about $60 million to himself as a result of those sales. 2 or 3 of his top cronies were also found guilty.

"Hollinger International once owned community papers across the United States and Canada as well as the Chicago Sun-Times, the Toronto-based National Post, The Daily Telegraph of London and Israel's Jerusalem Post."
