There's not much hidden wilderness around here, all prairie cropland, mostly all open and cultivated to legal crops. There is some amateur mj dope but not much, nor of good quality.
MJ, meth; one as illegal as the other ...but a world of difference in the desperation and psyche of the users. Meth labs are bringing the truly crazed to this here-to-fore untouched outback, however. It's a long way to Mexico and with gas prices as they are ...
One of the guys at work is on a Rural Volunteer Fire Dept. They get several calls a year just concerning Haz Mat where a valve is abandoned open on a nurse tank containing anhydrous ammonia (meth ingredient), very common agricultural item here. Seems the norm is to cut the lock, steal as much as can quickly be loaded in an open beer cooler and split. Often the fumes burn the eyes so much that the thieves leave without closing the valve. A concerned citizen eventually either sees or smells the cloud and reports it. The F.D. usually sneaks upwind of the valve and simply shuts it. Or if no wind, dons protective mask etc. That's just the ones with valves left open.
I suppose eventually we'll all be either armed or helpless. It is said that it takes more than 9mm to stop the well lit. Scary.

Wes,
I feel things are just about completely our of control. In todays news here they said this last weeks raid alone netted more marijuana than they got all of last year and they know of several more large gardens. The meth labs around here seem to be in every old trailer or shack there is. Some time ago a fire got into an old shed that had stood for years and it blew up. Turned out it was a storage place for the meth peoples chemicals. So far I know of 9 meth labs they have raided here in the past 5 months. Some evenings you can smell that stuff but it is hard to even tell which way it comes from as it saturates the whole area. At least they got rid of the two labs that were within a block of my house. But it is dangerous to even go hiking any more in these canyons because of these people.

They nailed 3 people that started up a grow house in the town next to me. The electric company is a town owner utility, and they noticed a big jump in electricity usage for the one family house. They notified the police and they got busted.
The lights necessary to grow weed in dark cellars is very high wattage.
Nice to hear that the cops got some unexpected help, and I bet there will not be another grow house in that town for a long time. I take that back. Those guys are stupid to grow the weed in a cellar.

They got real serious about using helicopters to spot and rid grass patches
here and really put a bite in that market. Now the ice is big and that stuff
seems to be really screwing lots of people. The old pakalolo made them
mellow - the ice makes them totally nuts in very unpleasant ways. Sad,
bad scene.

Flip,
This stuff is spreading all over faster than a politicians lies. People are even mixing in small batches of stuff in their flower gardens. I saw in the local paper the other day that dope is now California's number one cash crop. I think half the lawyers in Redding will only take dope cases as there is so much money in it. They not only can charge double their normal rates but even if they lose the dealers friends will pay them. This straight from a lawyer that I used to play racquetball with and he changed over years ago to just doing drug cases. Murder cases don't pay as much. Really depressing and the little kids that come out of those crack houses are pathetic as they aren't fed for days or even cleaned up and many are addicted because their Mother's used it. And it just keeps getting worse.

Are they bushes?
Don't ask me to remove the Bushes from Texas, somebody may be watching this board.
Meth used to be a hugh problem here in Oregon but since the governor forced all the stores to put the cold medicine behind the counter he has told us the problem has been solved.
We now know the methheads as they are the only ones not sneezing...

Well I guess it is true that what ever happens in California first will soon happen in other places afterwards.
I hear this on the news everyday that Dallas Police are finding huge farms of plants. Just like out west they are planting on public land under the tree lines. These plants are six to eight feet tall.
Dallas Police has a new task force to find and destroy these farms. So I guess the perps will move to Fort Worth. ( I am sure they are there already)
With as many plants as they are removing I'll bet the price of weed is skyrocketing.

Steve,
The price has always been high out here and with the abundance of it available I don't understand why they can keep it that high. I am sure that about every state now has their share of this stuff. The so called allowing them to grow a few small plants for medical use here sure flopped. They raided a huge farm that had several very large greenhouses on it and they were full of plants ready to harvest and the owner had a permit to grow some for medical use as he had some kind of eye problem, so that was what they tried to use in his trial. All he sold was to others that needed it also.

Warren,
I always wondered how they came up with that name. The whole town isn't as big as some of the pot gardens they find.

Hey, you guy's are making fun of Californias largest cash crop. And tax free on top of that. Maybe if we could mix some from two or three states and come up with something really different we could name it something else and it wouldn't be illegal.

They dozed it over today. DEA states an estimated street value of $8milion. They estimated 10,000 fully grown plants ready to harvest.
That is the fourth large field they have found this week.
I'll bet somebody is pissed off.

Jamo, stop being so lazy and walk a mile and pick your own.
I saw in today's paper that our Sheriff and some new guy who is head of a state drug task force I think it was were getting on a helicopter so he could show the new guy just what they face trying to eradicate this stuff in hundreds of thousands of acres of canyons and forests. The new guy was worried about the fire fighters and others who have to go into the mountains here. Maybe a new job in the making. Armed guard for tourists who like to hike.

The bad guys were planting lots of weed in the corn fields up here as the corn grows quickly and very tall. The problem was that the bad guys wouldn't allow the farmers to harvest their corn until the other crop had been removed. Lots of farmers began planting alternative crops or just leaving the fields empty so as to have piece and quiet.
It is hard to believe that there is that much demand for drugs. Half the population must be constantly high.
