You guys sound like members of a good old boys club and that works at some level, but a more formal (structured) approach would result in more dollars for Brent to continually improve the site and address downtime issues.

That's my 2 cents, now I'm done with this.

HI Cobra 11-19-2007 09:40 AM

My take on this "donations" is that it is like a good old boy's club and those
who feel like it are free to give something as a "thank you", for those who
are not so inclined - that's ok too. I don't think the intent was ever to "set
up a formal structure" to maximise $. The tax man would probably like it,
but I don't think we want to go there. KISS seems to work just fine. IMHO.

65cobra1 11-19-2007 10:28 AM

I'm sure I missed something but at the risk of being repetitive, where does one send their donation?

I truly enjoy and my learning curve has benefited from this site.

PayPal works for me.

If you would send Brent that 2 cents that would be a lot more than you have given in the 4 years you've been on this site.
Every little bit helps.:)

HI Cobra 11-19-2007 11:39 AM

65cobra1,

Not to worry - the donation info is pending - collection hasn't started yet,
so hang loose until the announcement arrives.:) You aren't late!

uncltodd 11-19-2007 01:47 PM

My meds just wore off, the pain is back, but so is much of the mind function. It's a trade-off.

For all I have learned here in four years, I now consider a donation, small or large, as a "voluntary tuition" which allows me to stalk the halls of Club Cobra knowledge as a paid-up student that occasionally contributes.

I know who I am, I am nobody and nothing.

:)

UT,

You aren't nobody or nothing. You are one of the nicer people on here. And you aren't even attached to a Turtle or Frog. Just posting with and to you has been a privilege. I wish I had done half the good in my life that you have.

Ron :)

See Ivan's quote and post below your post - actually, as it is set up now, it doesn't work with a damn.

I agree, especially with the last part - I'm not sure what the other parts even mean. Actually, if we give you money, would you not stalk?

I would think that if you wanted the Contributor status now, you could do it off-cycle, directly to Brent. Send him a PM.

No base amount has ever been set; it is what you can do and what you feel the value is to you.

thanks

cdc - this is what I was referring to, try chill brah! Tanks, eh.

LMFAO
Fred - its worth the $150 just to read your posts. You really know how to stir the pot. One of these days it will boil over.

Jeff Gagnon is setting up this years collection. He will broadcast instructions in the near future. Maybe I'll get my star back that got lost during one of the crashes many months ago.

I will be sending in my check by turtle express. It's in the mail! Honest

hey,littlecobra 11-19-2007 08:26 PM

As I see it, Brent 'runs the site' off the advertising revenue.

Any amount we as members VOLUNTARILY send him are a 'thank you'.

So, I will send my $ as a thank you for continued thanks for a site that:
sometimes is entertaining (see above)
sometimes is irritating (see above)
and sometimes informational (not much on this thread is informational, but I guess I shouldn't expect a triple shot)

Once the details get worked out, there will be a thread posted on All Cobra Talk with a 'sticky' with all the details of how/who to send it to. Paypal is usually an option. :)

Kristen

Thanks for posting this Kristen, I'm hoping that it might assist some that
seem to be having a problem "getting" it so far.

It IS a good old boys (hat tipped to Kristen) site. Now, do us a favor and paypal that 2 cents (+3%). I tired of hearing about the 2 cents.

I recall a time when the advertisements, best to my knowledge, did not pay for the site. Even then, Brent NEVER asked for donations, it has ALWAYS been a 'grass roots' thing. These days I get the impression that advertisements do pay for the site, which makes no difference to me. I contribute as a way of saying thanks, I feel good about it. NO pressure, no structure, just 'thanks' Brent! I think the grass roots approach is entirely appropriate for THIS site, I give from the heart.

There is another site I frequent that specifically asks for donations, but it has very little or no advertising. The 'donations' and 'suggestions' of how much to give are specific. You can give monthly or once a year or whatever. If your there long enough you DO feel 'pressure' to donate. It's like a business arrangement, I give because I get something of value, I EXPECT something of value. I am BUYING a service.

Here? I'm just hanging with friends and want to show my appreciation.

Ron61 11-20-2007 03:47 AM

CDC,

You started this thread and then turned it into a complete farce. Do not insult UT as he has done more good for more people than you will ever do and also most of the rest of us. Don't contribute, leave the club, do whatever you want, but stop putting everyone down as if you are the ultimate authority.

Ron

bomelia 11-20-2007 07:00 AM

Heeeeeere we go agin! In the left corner...CDC... in the raght corner, a lot of us (me, ahm sittn inda seets watchin!...popcorn in mah hannds)

hey,littlecobra 11-20-2007 07:17 AM

youse ain't watchin'; youse part of the fight!!! :D

yah.... some people don't get it, and it is a constant discussion EVERY YEAR, usually by NEW MEMBERS not folks that have been around here awhile.

Kinda like a few potstirrers in the texas forum looking to change the date of the spring meet. Leave it alone, allready!!!
