China's E Waste

It would seem from this that coal isn't the only major pollutant that China is putting out.

This will surely bite them in the a$$ - the question would be - how long
will it take?

I don't know but some of the air monitors here in California are and have been picking up pollution from China for some time now. No bad yet, but just slowly increasing. I heard on TV, not reliable of course, that Japan was really receiving a cloud of pollution from China. And as they just keep dumping more and more into the air, there is no way any one country can clean up the atmosphere. I also saw that the Yangtze (spelling) River is so polluted that some places it is dangerous to be in. Said they just keep pouring chemical waste and sewage into it and when they finish the Three Gorge Dam it will not be a lake but the largest cesspool in the world. I am not sure of any of this except the air monitors are picking up some of their pollution now and have been for some time. The rest could be exaggerated or made up for the headlines.

One of my customers regularly goes to China and he told me that when he was there last year (sorry I do not remember which city he was in) he could not see the sun. The whole sky was greyish brown but it was brighter in one area so he knew that was the position of the sun.

Two weeks ago when flying on business, I was seated beside a commercial pilot that flys to China, Hong Kong, etc on a regular basis. He said that it is quite normal to not be able to see the ground until down to just a few hundred feet. He said the air polution is almost like brown fog in many areas.

I have heard that the west coast of the both Canada and the US are now monitoring air pollution that is coming all the way across the Pacific Ocean. It isn't hard to figure out why Wal Mart can sell for less.

Wayne,

I just don't understand how our politicians can keep on about us cleaning the environment up when it is going to take every country in the world working together to do it. I swear some of these people act as if you clean the air above your city, it will stay that way. The burning of the rain forests has also contributed a lot to the pollution. I can't wait until one of our geniuses wants several billion dollars to install huge fans to blow everything back across the Pacific. Heck, Canada is a lot closer and it wouldn't take so many fans.
