Bad Sportsmanship
I was watching the Colts-Chargers game over the weekend and they were giving awards to some kids who had tried out and had excelled at passing, kicking, in sort of a football camp sort of thing (I was only half paying attention to those details - perhaps someone could fill me in).
There was this 13 or 14 year old girl who had won in her age division and she was from New Hampshire. She was wearing a Patriots shirt (I think they all wore shirts of their home teams), and when they announced her name the entire stadium booed her. Yeah, I get the rivalry between the Colts and the Pats, but there is a time and a place for it. I'd like to think that if the same girl showed up in Yankee pinstripes for a similar accomplishment at Fenway that she would be cheered, but I have to question it. Is our culture really so lacking in class and honour that we need to boo a young girl for supporting her home team? Steve |
Steve
That is very sad. Can you imagine how that girl felt? Wayne |
Steve,
I never saw that but if they booed her that is just carrying the so called rivalry to far. I think that our sports fans are getting as bad as some of the soccer fans in Europe when I see things they do. I have my favorite teams too, but I would never act like some of these people do. When an opposing player does something extra, I admire it, and the girl wasn't even a player, so they should be cheering any of the kids that won anything. Ron  |
Lack of class is being kind Steve....VERY KIND!!!!
|
that is ridiculous. No class and no respect either. Booing professional athletes (used loosely in many cases) from an opposing team is rivalry. Booing a fan, that has won a nation wide contest, just because they are a fan of that team is uncalled for.

Yeah I probably was being kind - but I suspect that if I posted what I really felt like writing then I would probably get banned.;) I hope nobody on this forum was was one of the ones who booed in that crowd. Steve |
Oh, I forgot to post this - I found an article that give it a bit more detail.

good to see she took it well.

Winning your age group in the Punt, Pass and Kick competition is tough.
Getting booed by the classless and "choke artists" Colts fans is tough. A couple of the local sports announcers are trying to get Kraft to bring the girl to the stadium this Sunday so she can get her well deserved applause. That would be priceless. |
I hope they succeed and that the crowd who booed her has to stay away. I think our society as a whole is sinking fast. :(
Ron  |
Bob Kraft, (a REAL class act BTW) invited the girl & entire family to this week's game. She'll be on the field at coin toss.
What to see the lowest form of sports fan? Come to a Phila. Eagles game. They booed Santa Clause!!! If you are "nuts "enough to wear a rival teams jersey, you WILL get cursed, hit with mustard packs, tossed beer cups and that's when the Eagles are winning!!! They even have a JAIL in the park for drunks etc!!! What a place!!! Quite different at Phillies baseball games. |
I saw the girl get boo'd, and it was sad. I think they must have prepped here on it though, as the way she smiled when the boo came seemed like she knew
Our little friend Karma got even though, as the Colts are now on a nice long vacation  At least her team is 17-0. (I am a Raider fan though, so I will never forget the "Snow Bowl", "tuck rule" NE/Oak playoff game that has propelled NE to greatness). |

Sure, the Patriots greatness is all due to one call. If it wasn't for that one official call, the Patriots would have been cellar dwellers. Oh wait a minute ... its been the Raiders who have been the cellar dwellers for the last decade. Eat your heart out, Tallguy. Oh yeah, thanks for giving us Moss for almost nothing. Al Davis is a great owner? Oh please ...... :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p |
