Yes, at night it is overcast. Lack of sun does strange things. All the way up to 14°F now. It was down to about 6°F last night. Still waiting for Al Gore to come by and drop off some global warming. |
Warren,
It is light now and not only is it overcast but we have a light very cold sprinkle falling. The temperature is up to 37 right now. Not as bad as you have it but more than I need. Ron  |
low 40s and rain here today. If this heat wave does not pass soon, Dallas is going to spontaneously combust.
|
Joe, Watch out for the floating ice bergs as they come down from the North and flood all the lower areas. I can see snow falling on the small hills just past the dam, which is 7 miles from me, so I hope it doesn't get any lower. Ron ;) |
Heck yesterday morning I step outside to feed my dog and I find his water is frozen about 1/2 inch thick ice on the top. I can't break it or get it to come out, so I just poured hot water on top. It melted some of the ice and got cold quickly. It was enough until it warmed up enough for the ice to melt.

wtm442 - Send some Global Warming to me next.
We had a high of 12 yesterday (wind chill 20-30 below). I was outside most of the afternoon it took me the rest of the day to thaw-out!:JEKYLHYDE . |
:(
Well our rain has turned to snow and it is coming down like mad. I hope it doesn't get any colder as right now it isn't sticking and is melting. :( Ron  |
Did anyone watch the 60 minutes special last night? Lots of very well known and respected scientists are predicting the average temperature of the world could rise 3 or 4 degrees during the next 100 years. Glaciers are retreating all over the world which is the real sign of problems. I think that most agree that there is a gradual warming trend right now however no one seems to be able to agree on the cause. Is it just part of a natural cycle or it being caused by man's activities since the industrial revolution?

SoCal is in the midst of a multi-year drought. Last season's rains were the LEAST in recorded history. The snowpack in the Sierras was among the lowest amounts as well. The summer of '06 was the HOTTEST on recent record.
Let's bring this thread back during the summer. |
Quote:
The Sierras are, currently, at 60% of normal snowpack. So ... if it's the third wettest season on record, and the rainiest in 115 years, how is it that we're getting the LEAST amount of rains? Hmm. Your pal, Meteorologist Meat. |
Why would you resort to "Chicken Little" name-calling? Very liberal of you.

Any of ya'll ever read or hear the story about a Texan moving north?
A Texan Moves North January 10 It's 5:00PM. It's starting to snow. The first of the season and the first one we've seen in years. The wife and I took our hot buttered rum and sat by the picture window watching the soft flakes drift down, clinging to the trees and covering the ground. It was so beautiful. January 11 We woke to a lovely blanket of crystal white snow covering the landscape. What a fantastic sight. Every tree and shrub covered with a beautiful mantle. I shoveled snow for the first time in my life and loved it. I did both the driveway and the sidewalk. later a snow plow came along and accidentally covered up the driveway with compacted snow from the street. The driver waved and smiled. I waved back and shoveled again. January 12 It snowed an additional 5 inches last night and the temp has dropped to 11 degrees. Several tree limbs have snapped in the snow. I shoveled the drive again. Shortly afterwards the snowplow came again. Now the now is a brownish-grey. January 13 It warmed enought today to cause slush which froze again when the temp dropped. Bought snow tired for both cars. Fell on my a$$ in the driveway. $145.00 to a chiropractor. Northing broken. More snow. January 14 Still cold as hell. Sold the wife's car. Bought a 4x4 to get her to work. Slid into a guardrail anyways, considerable damage. Another 8 inches of snow last night. Both vehicles covered with salt and crud. More shoveling for me. The goshdarn snowplow came twice today. January 15 It's 2 !@#$%^& degrees outside. More !@#$%^& snow. Not a tree on our property hasn't been damaged. Power was off most of the night. Tried to keep from freezing to death with candles and a kerosene heater, which tipped over and nearly burned the !@#$%^& house down. Managed to put out the flames but suffered 2nd degree burns on my hands plus lost all my eyelashes and eyebrows. car slid off the road on the way to the emergency room and totalled it. January 16 More mother!@#$%^& goshdarn white $hit keeps coming down. Have to put on all the clothes we own just to get to the !@#$%^ mailbox. If I ever catch the son-of-a-b*tch who drives that !@#$%^ snowplow, I'll chew open his chest and rip out his heart. I think he hides around the corner till I shovel. Power still off. Roof has started to cave in. January 17 Six more !@#$%^& inches of !@#$%^& white ****e and !@#$%^& sleet and no tellin' what the !@#$ else fell last night. I wounded the !@#$ing snowplow **** with an ice axe, but he got away. Wife left me. The car won't start. I think I'm going snowblind. I can't feel my ****ing toes. Haven't seen the sun in weeks. More white $hit forecast. Wind chill is 22 below. I'm moving my a$$ back to Texas. |
I'm not sure what the rest of the state has for rain fall, but we are well below our normal up here and have been for the past three years. We did have more so far this Winter than in the last to put together, but a look at the lake will tell you we are not nearly normal. The snow packs on Lassen and Shasta are more than last year, but still some ways from the normal. But if this weather keeps staying cold and we keep getting falling stuff, they should start to add up. Last Summer they had the road through Lassen cleared the earliest in history as it normally takes until late June or early July to get it completely clear and last summer it was opened May I think it was. The snow was so light that they could just go through with a regular plow and throw it off instead of having to haul it out of deep cuts.
Ron :) |
I am not sure what the point of this thread is...couldn't even read Fred's last post what with all the shaking.
Nice avatar! Mike |

If that avatar is what Global Warming did for you, why haven't the rest of us gotten something besides snow and cold out of it?? http://www.hazelnet.org/icon/weather/cold2.gif Ron :) |

Don't know for sure, beats me. I do know it takes the chill off my globes though.:) |
I bet if those globes were here today they would not be shaking. It isn't raining but is bitter cold with rain in the forecast. Here it is 10 o'clock and still so dark I have to have the lights on. Ron :JEKYLHYDE |
It's been so darn cold here I've started wearing long sleeve shirts when I ride the motorcycle into work...
|
:(
Gee Ernie, I really feel for you. It is so cold here that the cold front from the Gulf of Alaska detoured around us to keep from getting warmed up before it gets to Tru and Warren. Ron :) |
