Home Invasion & Garage Door Openers
Last year there was a tragic incident in CT where a mother and her two daughters were killed in a home invasion. The father was seriously injured. Since then, other home invasions have received press coverage.
In a recent home invasion, the home was locked but the car parked in the driveway was not locked. The intruders used the garage door opener to gain access to the garage and used an unlocked internal door to gain access to the interior of the home. Home security requires locking the car, even when parked in the driveway, as well as locking all the house doors. |
:(
Don, That is sad. I have always locked my car in the carport and also the gates across my driveway. I take my door opener into the house at night and don't leave it in the car. Also I have a state of the art alarm system that covers the whole perimeter of my house and inside and out plus the inside of the garage. Around here that is the only way to keep the dopers away. They all know about my set up and won't even come on this side of the street when they are out prowling around. Also I have NRA stickers prominently displayed. A couple of years ago they cut a hole in the back of my neighbors garage and stole a bunch of saws and stuff, but couldn't get into the house. Ron :( |
Don,
That is a very common means of getting into homes these days. It seems like the crooks are communicating all across the nation as to how to do this. It has happened here many times. |
In my community, there is maybe 1 or 2 break-ins per year. Very low since I live on a peninsula. Bad guys do not want to be stuck anywhere there is only one escape route.
Even so, my house, garage and all cars are locked. It only takes 1 second to lock a car. I do not want to be a statistic. |
