That is great stuff. Jamo I used to go to Riverside Raceway and I never saw you there.:LOL: They used to have a NASCAR race there too. And Shelby had a driving school there. Remember turn 9. I liked that track and hated to see it torn up for houses. Thunder hill is nice but nothing like Riverside, at least not to me. Ron :JEKYLHYDE |
Yeah, Tam has a great site. He has put a lot of work into it. I like that he has text and info with it explaining some of the stories from back then.

You're thinking of the Times Grand Prix...Otis Chandler was a big car guy. Used to go there throughout the 60s with my Dad, brother and uncles, and then all the time when I went to school there. I had a BRE 510, and our little group would get some track time every so often. Always went during the CanAm-TransAm weekends. The biggest noise ever. |

Jamo, I was there to see my last race when I was in basic at Ft. Ord. Then when I returned from that miserable place they sent me to, I went a few times when I would be down in that area. I think they still have one small piece of the track preserved with a sign that tells what it is but am not sure. The noise part is what really made it racing, plus they had to drive those cars. I miss the old CamAm-TransAm series. At least they used real cars and not the phony stuff NASCAR does now. I saw a guy at Thunder Hill last summer with a car he had bought from NASCAR and he was trying to run it on that track. It had Ford stenciled on it but it was one of the aero cars they used until this year and he made two laps and quit as he couldn't keep it on the track. I don't think it knew how to turn any way but left. Edit: Steve, that is a great site and I also added it to my Favorites list. Thanks. Ron :D |
