PC's vs. Mac's

The Street is running a new video that cites research from Mindset Media, which pretty much says Mac users are assholes. Okay, they used the term "snobs," but that was far too offensive to use in the title for this article.

Mindset Media surveyed 7500 Mac and PC owners, and what they found seems believable, (we would have worded it differently.) Apparently, Mac boys 'n' girls are more likely to use teeth whitening products, notebooks over desktop computers, drive station wagons, pay for downloaded music, frequent Starbucks and have a greater environmental conscious.

Sufficed to say, Mac users are largely douchebag-like in character. Douchebags that are reported to have purchased five pairs of sneakers in the last year, but douchebags nonetheless. Checkout the video after the jump; it's priceless.

Flame Wars: The Street Says Mac Users are Pretentious Assholes, PC Users are Cheapskates

So ... if - and this is a hypothetical - a certain food group had a Mac, but ran Parallels or Bootcamp so that he could run Windows like PC users do, wouldn't that make him a cheap asshole rather than a pretentious one?

Your pal,
Meat.

trularin 02-18-2008 05:50 AM

I can see that.

Hey, as long as I can do what I want to do.

:D :D

kris-kincaid 02-18-2008 05:53 AM

I just got a Mac last week. I don't know, I haven't changed at all. :D

trularin 02-18-2008 06:06 AM

kris-kincaid, you know you are leaving yourself wide open to a jab from someone.

HI Cobra 02-18-2008 01:15 PM

I have been using a Mac for years and don't drink Starbucks - way too
expensive. I'm just lazy, the thing doesn't crash, and is relatively virus proof.
I don't use teeth whiteners, don't have a station wagon, just a Cobra, and
have an environmental awareness, but not idiocy like Cheryl Crow and her
one square toilet paper use advocacy. Woe is me!

Ron61 02-18-2008 01:57 PM

Flip,

You prove Roscoe's point in a way. You jump out of perfectly good airplanes. None of us dumb people would do that. :D

Ron :p

You live in Hawaii...you're a dickhead since we don't live there.

I bet Don Ho has a Mac.....

Roscoe

Ron61 02-19-2008 02:36 AM

Roscoe,

Actually he has a Pineapple, their version of the apple. :p

Ron :D

trularin 02-19-2008 06:20 AM

I thought Don Ho was dead.

HI Cobra 02-19-2008 09:58 AM

Both he and his daughter are dead.

Jamo - bite me!:)

I paid my dues by living in the northeast for too many years, decided to
thaw out - and it worked. The pineapple works well too!

How bad can a Mac be? It is actually a Unix variant, so I could probably figure out how to use one.

Windows is pretty annoying. Just look how "cute" notepad is. Thank goodness someone made a "vi" clone called "gvim" so I can edit text files effectively. :D

Actually my wife owns a Mac, it's called an iPod iTouch. It apparently is the first iPod to run the Mac OS. One of my coworkers has an iTouch too and has hacked into it to and enabled various iPhone applications and unix applications including "telnet" and "ps".

If you don't count Vista (I don't), I'm MS all the way.

But I'm running a business with servers, SQL, office apps. and of course a billing system. I'm screwed.%/

Mac ain't even in the ball park for me or the UNIX crowd, who can't take the loss in functionality. If the popularty goes up we'll see a repeat of the virus/worm problems that plauged the PC crowd the last 10yrs. Mac users were safley ignored, but it's a cummin.

The UNIX crowd's been getting hit hard now so you rarely hear them gloat like they used to.

Have you ever heard of Linux? To me Linux is just a bunch of new Unix variants.

I believe Linux was the first platform that Oracle released 11g on (instead of Solaris or Windows). Isn't Oracle like the 2nd largest software company on the globe and Windows was not on the top of their list for first delivery.

The King is dead, long live the King.

Computers are just another "religious" type argument thing, like big block versus small block, ford verus chevy. ;)

Ronbo 02-21-2008 10:22 PM

Linux is a variant of UNIX the guy that wrote it based it on UNIX. He released it for free on one condition, any changes, improvements have to also be offered for free. (GPL)

UNIX was able to run on both Intel and Motorola CPU's unlike MS DOS.

There's a third OS that was the old VME (VAX) from digital computer that HP still maintains. This was the first high stability OS ever offered and there's a dedicated crowd of mainly ex-digital employees that run it. This was actually the first OS ported to the itanium processor. MS and Linux finally came out months later.

As far as I know HP still recommends VME for the high dollar servers. The next step up from these is a Cray.
