Rebirth of AMC - Hot Rod Magazine article
Lounge Area: Sorry this is not Cobra related, but... VERY COOL!
Hey MuscleCar Heads - Anyone here on CC just happen to pick up a recent copy of Hot Rod Magazine? Looks like HR got the scoop on it, with a few illustrations in there. One wealthy man's passion for the possible return of the AMX/3>4, which lead to a possible Javelin, Gremlin, and yes Pacer too along with a 220mph style AMX/4 type Lambo V12 supercar and a few other Luxury cars on the drawing board. The vision is all new ground-up designs and materials, new tech engine materials AND "Made in Amercia". It appears they are keeping it private and staying away from Wallstreet or that's the plan. Possible two plants with one in Wisconsin and SoCal. If it becomes reality, and with the rebirth of the Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, and now AMX/Javelin... possible Vintage Trans-Am Round2? Anybody see/read this yet? |
As interesting as it sounds, unfortunately, that happens to be the april fool's issue of Hot Rod. See the forum link here: The Rebirth of AMC – HotRod.com General Topics Forum

Hey Buzz,
FIGURES! Darn. No, I did not catch that. Seems the story has generated quite a bit of buzz... hahahaha, pun intended. You would think that someone at Chrysler or whomever still owns the AMC name would get a clue and pay attention to the feedback about Hot Rods joke. I guess the clue should have been that it came out in Hot Rod first before any other magazines. Thanks for the reply. |
The idea of a new, all American brand with fresh, cutting edge designs has a whole lot of appeal. AMC was always a bit quirky and different and in the days when the industry was moving towards shared platforms and clone like cookie-cutterism (my word), they stood out like a sore thumb. To many, some of their offerings looked like a sore thumb too, but in today's world that penchant for out of the box thinking and gutsy innovation might be just the ticket in a market hungry for a new, exciting, home grown approach to reviving the glory days of the US auto industry.
