Because we are in the end times. And it will get a LOT worse.

.

Actually guys, I don't believe it is any worse now than it ever has been, and 'end times' smacks of religious hysteria. Look at the past a little, and consider how Europe felt when 50% of the population was wiped out with the Black Death in the Middle Ages over a ten year period, or in the 1940s when London almost burned to the ground in the Blitz, or when Hitler tried to kill all the Jews. I KNOW it is a cliche to say "you never had it so good", but we are living at the zenith of human endeavor and are surrounded by good people, great inventions and wonderful experiences.

The problem, IMHO, is the fourth estate has become completely obsessed with bad news and trivial reporting. One headline like "Student Kills Self in Front of 150 Classmates" can (and should!!) disturb us immensely, but that same day, 200 million other students went happily on their way NOT killing themselves. We have all become inured to this bad news and trivia that we have started to extrapolate relatively isolated incidents into a mass hysteria.

Instant and pervasive communication is a curse and a blessing and novel to the late 20th and early 21st century.

Things in isolation are dreadful, things in general are well!

Glyn

PS LOL...Ed, don't wind up the ignorant, there are no 'end times', at least not in the biblical sense!

For the most part, your correct. It's the lack of compassion for the children and meaningless killings that upsets me. It's like the borderline only need a nudge to carry out a thought.

unless things change course, I believe this will be the 'end' of society as it was intended. History repeats itself and how foolish it would be for us to think we were immune from human nature.

I think one thing which is unprecedented, in a historical sense, is how society is nearly defined globally. Societies and world powers have come and gone with what would be, generally, local consequences. We are on that same timeline. It now seems as though, as business and trade are defined by global reaction, we, society, is at a teetering point.

Tolerance of the intolerant. This pervasive cyclical logic is where democracy has gone.

Although tragic events should stir the moral consciousness, we should be enraged that the people at the helm of our society, like Bernake would suggest the idiotic idea lenders should reduce principal amounts to avoid foreclosure.

yes, I honestly think it will get a lot worse.
