Auction: Roush P-51A Mustang
From Hemmings.com:
"Barrett-Jackson to auction final Roush P-51A Mustang Listed as lot number 667, the final Roush P51-A Mustang, number 151 of 151, will be auctioned by Barrett-Jackson during their Collector Car Event at West Palm Beach, Florida, on Saturday, March 29. Proceeds from the sale will be going to the Salute to Education Scholarship charity. NASCAR team owner Jack Roush will be in attendance to oversee the bidding. It is for a very worthwhile cause that we are putting up this Roush P-51A Mustang, said Jack Roush. I am proud of the work that the Roush engineers put into the development, I am proud of the finished vehicle, and I am proud that we can help to support the Salute to Education with the proceeds from the auction. The Salute to Education Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who demonstrate community service, academic achievement, leadership and strong educational and career goals. Ford Motor Company, participating Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealers, and Ford Motor Credit fund the program that has helped thousands of students realize their dream for a college or university education. Sold out within 24 hours when the dealer order banks were opened, the P-51A is one of the highest horsepower Mustangs that the company has ever produced, with a rating of 510hp and 510-lbs.ft. of torque. It will also carry an industry-leading three-year/36,000 mile warranty. For more information about the Roush P-51A Mustang, visit www.roushperformance.com. I would have called it a P-51D;)
|
If it really was the highest horsepower Mustang they should have called it the P-51H

I've gone to Barrett-Jackson twice, and though all the stuff there is neat...I'm getting really annoyed with all the "other" items being auctioned. I'm not against items for charity...but there has to be a better place to sell an AIRPLANE, what's next, Carrols underware...or maybe Roush's baby pictures up on the block?! They (Barrett-Jackson) needs to keep up with what made them huge...cars. But, hey...that is just my opinion.

www.roushperformance.com I am with you though ....auctioning off a new production vehicle with an msrp is as rediculous as the dealership 25k markup on them! However if there wasn't a market and buyers they wouldn't be doing it. Marc |
Whats the starting bid for Carrolls underwear?
:D |
I own a Roush. I didn't pay nearly what it retails for.
Let me be the first to say that most everything Roush builds is very overpriced. I agree with the above though, if fools are dumb enough to pay for it....then it must make sense to their marketing folks. |
I drove one of the P-51As last Saturday. It is a damn nice ride. Good suspension settings/rates (not as stiff as some of the Saleens or Shelby offerings I've driven lately). Only had 44 miles on it, so I didn't mash the throttle, but the low end felt good, and the KDs with the good suspension made it quite nice on the onramp.
Roush's sticker said $68,000. The dealer sticker said $104,000. They offered it to me before I left the lot at $89,000. Then they called an hour later and dropped it to $79,000. You cannot get a Ford extended warranty on it. You cannot lease it (through Ford and most banks) for any amount over the original Mustang MSRP. Not going to work out as a replacement for the Vette as a daily driver for me...nor would I pay that much for a Mustang without a whole host of blowjobs. JMHO |

Yup...I think that's the one I would be more interested in.
The green stripe and the orange/yellow thingies on the the P-51 are a bit over the top... |
Yep it is a nice car ,powerfull motor etc. I looked into getting one when I found out they were being built, then I heard about the dealer markup!
Forget about it I orderded my cobra instead!:D These are Mustangs not a Porche or Lambo folks paying 35-40k over sticker on something that depreciates as fast as you drive it off the lot is not a wise purchase in my opinion. Just my 2 pennies. |
a little more docile
I'm waiting for the J 3 Cub tribute Mustang... More my speed and affordable..

Hey Ron!!!!!
Just got back from another planet. And yep... I've still got the Cobra...
A truly glorious machine... Ran into Carl Franklin in Las Vegas last year... Great reunion... Hoping to make it to Mt. Shasta to visit him in the near future.. Thanks again.. |
:)
Al, Good to hear that you and Carl got together. Glad to hear that you still have the Cobra. I have regretted selling mine since the day I drove it into my cousins trailer. If you get to Mt. Shasta stop by. It is just an hour or so drive. Ron :JEKYLHYDE |
