2.8 ghz dual core processer with 3 gig of memory and a 600 meg hard drive. Block up poper stops mose stuff, this is a late model top of the line machine! Vista DOES run smooth, rarely gives a problem, very stable, very smooth. Awesome hardware specs, this thing should run so fast it would leave black marks between corners, and yet, it aint 'that fast'. My XP machine, with similiar hardware specs, is clearly faster overall!
Like I said, things I DON'T like about Vista, compared to a COMPARABLE hardware spec machine running XP: Slower to boot. File and Folder manipulation (copying, moving, looking, editing, etc.) is more clumsy with Vista than with XP. Some of this has to do with 'security issues' to keep you from 'doing bad stuff' to your files/folders, which also means you can't do 'good stuff' either. :D When it comes to 'gaming' Vista is just TO dang slow in general. Vista machine 'hangs' on occasion running Call of Duty in single player mode. That NEVER happens on my XP machine. Vista is much slower to 'hook' to games online, XP machine means I'm usually the first one on the battle field. I bought my son a new Dell 17" laptop, top of the line killer maching. Check this out, you could ONLY GET XP on the top of the line models! The less expensive machines were Vista only. Now think about that, the expensive business machines you can get with XP or Vista, but the cheaper consumer models were Vista only. Things that make you go, Hmmmmmm.... |
See, I have my security settings turned off. So I don't ever get the "A program needs your permission to..." blah blah blah.
It does get annoying when everytime you try to install somehting or move somehting it asks you for permission. So just disable it. |
Turning off security is of course the first step, but there are many levels below that to 'keep your stuff safe'. There are STILL plenty of files/folders you gotta jump through hoops to get to. Their locations have been moved, there more difficult to find and once you do, you gotta remember where the heck it was. Clearly much harder to 'hack' a Vista operating system. A good thing I suppose, but that depends on which side of the fence your standing on. I'm used to 'total control', I feel like some of that has been taken away. :LOL:

My wife got a nice new dell for christmas. I HATE DELL!!! haha I was offered a job with them but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. everyone warned me against it. Said they treat their people like crap. Anyways, I ordered her laptop as her christmas present. Got ALL the good stuff in a nice pink case. Ordered it in Mid august so there would be NO chance it wouldn't be there by the time I got home on Nov 1st. It arrived the last week of october!! holy SLOOOOOOOW batman!!! It's been a good machine so far. I haven't got to break it down and get all that trial freeware crap off it yet. |

I have never and never will run games on a computer of mine. The only ones on them are what comes with the OS. I am not a game person and if I was I would buy a regular game station for them. I have ran into several different applications, Nero, and other photo programs that will not work with all of their features not to mention some security suites, and yes, I had the ones on Vista disabled so there was no conflict. I will cheerfully concede to your belief that Vista is the best there is as it just isn't worth a long discussion. Vista is already starting to feel the hackers as it gains more of the market place they will move on and then XP will be even better. There are some ways to make it easier to find folders and do things but if I wanted to spend all day doing that I would work for some security firm.:D Meat, If I ever get another computer which is doubtful, I will wait for the next OS. To many stories about businesses having new networking installed with Vista and then having to have it replaced with XP. To me the worst OS was Millennium which thank God only lasted around 6 months. That made even Vista look good. :D Ron :) |
