Your point about self-fulfilling religious prophecies is well stated!

My posts have a habit of being taken the wrong way or misunderstood resulting in pissing people off. I tend to assume that it was taken wrong when I reply. that is all. :JEKYLHYDE

As far as the Hubbert Peak for oil being 2012, I believe that is merely a coincidence.

GlynMeek 04-16-2008 01:19 PM

A coincidence????? A COINCIDENCE???????? rofl...there are no coincidences!!!

Mayan Calendar, Hubbert peak, magnetic pole switch, melting ice caps, global warming, Yellowstone Park caldera rising in unprecedent amounts, the last pope...and you say that they are ALL coincidental?????

WE ARE DOOMED, I TELL YOU, DOOMED...:D

Joe Wicked 04-16-2008 01:22 PM

More than likely.

With that being said, I thing everyone should donate to the Buy Joe A Cobra Charity Fund. That way I can join the madness before it is all over.

Isn't the Church of Oprah going to save us all?

I loved the comment "Oprah reaches more people in one day than what most pastors do in a lifetime"

Yeah, but Catholic priests touch more young people than Oprah will in her whole lifetime.

It seems a lot of people were duped by the over-zelous, sensationalist media once again.

Ron;
You hit on one of my favorites! History and visiting sites of same. What was your favorite? For me, an early morning July visit to Gettysburg. I was on the field of Mr. Pickett when the sun came up and it was an eerie experience, looking across to the Union lines as they had done. Nothing else has ever hit me quite the same way. Vicksburg, the Colliseum, Herman the Germans tomb, Ford's Theatre, Mt. Vernon...all great 'sees'.

GlynMeek 04-16-2008 08:18 PM

Sharpe...share your passion as well...some of my favorites are Gettysburg, Agincourt, Omaha Beach, ANYWHERE in Rome, Pompeii, Auschwitz, Tower of London and The Somme!

All places to just go sit somewhere far from the madding crowd and absorb what happened there!

Glyn

The Somme!

Ooohhh...I forgot that one. Another spine chiller!

Obviously not referring to Rome! have you ever taken any of the 'underground' tours...the 'City Under the City' stuff? They have one thru the water system of Rome (that connects all the fountains) and it is high on my 'To Do'. Whats fun is that now (post-military) I can actually spend time there and not feel quite so rushed. Next up for us is the Forbidden City...summer 2009.

GlynMeek 04-16-2008 08:50 PM

LOL...true about Rome, although I was there last year and found a quiet place to sit in the Colosseum and spent an hour just kind of 'detached'. I never have done any of the 'underground' tours, but I lived for a long time in London and Paris and have actually given some special tours in both cities to visitors who were staying with us. My son has been to the Forbidden City and says it is quite spectacular. Closest I got was a few years ago to Changi prison on Singapore where my dad was a prisoner during WWII...THAT was a VERY moving experience!!!!!

Glyn

PS just read a book that explains the origin of the name of Rome (predates 'Romulus' by some 500 years). Turns out the Latin word for boar's teats is ruma and they thought the 7 hills originally looked like upturned pig's teats ( a little like the Grand Tetons I suppose) ruma gradually morphed into Roma

2012 is the expected completion date of Dallas' eastern mass transit light rail extension.
soooo...

2012 is the end of the line

Hey, now ... wait just a second. A cool thing to do (if you know it's going to be there) is to go to Vatican City on Easter! A few years ago - if you knew the right person to talk to - you could go 'to this museum, turn left, go down to the guard, show him your ticket' go down another hall to get to the display room and be the only visitor in the room with the Shroud of Turin.

Your pal,
Meat.

NASA sets the record straight
It read like a space-age tale of David and Goliath. An enterprising 13-year-old German boy recalculates the likelihood of an asteroid hitting Earth, alerts NASA, and the big American space agency acknowledges he's right. Only problem? It's not true.

Officials from both NASA and the European Space Agency have refuted the account, which sped across the Web at the speed of light. The young man's asteroid-strike numbers were not correct and the U.S. space agency has not, repeat has not, changed its mind about the 1-in-45,000 chance that the hurtling hunk of rock will collide with our planet. (The student thought it was a 1-in-450 chance. Yikes!)

Unfortunately, all this came out after articles on the teen's statistical success soared in Buzz, and even made it to the Yahoo! front page. Lookups for "apophis," the asteroid in question, surged into the top hourly searches.

Ron :p
