United Airlines?????/
I spent 33 years in the airline industry and this is just my novice opinion. if your invested, fly or otherwise have any interest in UAUA. Pay close attention. Again, this is just my opinion and I could be wrong but, I don't think they will be operating in the near future?.

Perry, From what I am reading and hearing there are more than just United that may not be around much longer. Fueld costs and UNION stupidity are going to drive all of them out of business. Ron :o |
All of the security crap is not making flying very attractive either. I'm not saying that we don't need the security, I am saying it is a pain in the butt. The airlines realize that security is turning some pasengers away and I'm sure that they would streamline security if they could.
If United goes belly up, that will leave a big hole in the Star Alliance which I fly all the time. The only other American carrier that is a partner is US Air which I consider to be very low on the ladder. I honestly do not know how they stay in business. Wayne |
How quickly we've forgotten the rail infrastructure we put in place long before we allowed ourselves to be so rushed by the jet age. With flight delays caused by over booking, inclement weather, endless security checks that only defer amateurs from killing us at or below 30,000 ft.,continued mechanicals due to the ageing and costly maintenance of our aircraft and rising air fares caused by higher fuel prices and union demands we've all been fooled into thinking that rail travel takes to long. Train travel often is as fast and usually less hassled than flying commercially. When air travel was in its infancy it was a conveyance for a select few. It's no secret that you can't have it both way (no mater how large you make the plane). When the obvious is rediscovered both conveyances will benefit. I'm a million mile flyer with several airlines and sit in the front section of the plane when I'm forced to fly. Today I prefer to travel by train if continental or by ship if oceans are involved.

IMHO, I think further consolidation in the airline industry is inevitable. I would further propose that United will more than likely consolidate with another carrier.
Consolidation will likely lead to higher ticket prices and perhaps allow the airlines to make some kind of a profit. I think my favorite quote about the airline industry came from Charles Branson (owner of Virgin Airlines). He was asked about what it takes to become a millionaire. He simply stated that the best way to become a millionaire was to be a billionaire that buys an airline...might have the specifics wrong, but you get the basic idea. |

Well if Charles Bronson was running things we'd have M-16's in the cockpit and the darn planes WOULD leave on time.
Branson? No one would be a virgin and champagne for all. :D |
