Cleaning a Fiberglass Shower Enclosure
What the best method and materials for thoroughly cleaning fiberglass shower enclosure? The basic cleaners don't do much to cut through the build up, but I'd be leery of using something too strong since the enclosure is fairly old.
Strange question, but I thought I toss it out there. Thanks. |
I'd recommend Scrubbing Bubbles Mildew Stain Remover with Bleach. Its great stuff and it really eats up soap scum.
Make sure you open a window and set up a fan. Its powerful stuff. |
My wife had the same problem till she caught me in the shower cleaning engine parts. No problem anymore...

Warren is correct, I ran into that by accident when I used up all my 'purple magic'. NAPA sells PM, it's also known by other names but it's great, I spray my equipment after a job, let it set for a few minutes and wash off with garden hose, great at cutting oil and grime.

I'm not sure what product is best for cleaning the fiberglass, but I had good luck keeping the shower clean using fiberglass boat wax. It slows down the process of scum build-up.
Anybody else try the dishwasher for small parts cleaning?? |
If you are talking the floor pan, I got mine spotless with using oxiclean powder... I was leary of using organic solvents that many degreasers contain.
I made a runny paste consistency mixture of the oxiclean powder with water... let it stand on the stain for 20 minutes, scrubbed with an old terry cloth rag, after a couple of cycles of letting stand, drinking a beer, and scrubbing, it was done. Then use the boat wax trick. Careful on walls, the paste is fairly abrasive. |

Just a couple times, and nothing greasy. Just a couple things that were really dirty that i was going to paint. BTW, my wife was not home at the time or I probably wouldn't be here to type this message! So SHHHHH!!! 2nd the Oxyclean. I've used simple green from time to time, but my wife doesn't like the smell... women! |
I know I can always count on some good advice...and a few laughs.
I'll give the Scrubbing Bubbles stuff a try. |

I don't know about other States but here in Texas we have found that if you shower once a week, every week,(whether you need it or not) you don't have the major scum build up y'all seem to be having problems with.
|
Us northerners take a shower every day whether we need it or not. That is why the soap scum build-up is inside our showers, whereas the scum build-up on most Texans is on their body. This is especially true for BB and the Humpin' Ho Sisters.:LOL:

I've been wondering if you still are getting that tingle up your spine every morning when you see Biker Babe backing out of the shower ??%/ http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/500/fun6.jpg The Ho Sisters prefer swamp water to tap water. I think that might be one of the reasons they can't seem to break through the 2 bit pay ceiling. |
