House passes bill to sue OPEC over oil prices - Yahoo! News

.

Ron61 05-20-2008 02:01 PM

:(

Has our Congress got nothing more to do than this kind of crap? It is their oil in their country for crying out loud. And even if they did sue them, just how do they propose to make them lower the price and do what we want? We have to many ridiculous lawsuits in this country already to start trying to sue other countries because they won't give us what we want.

Ron

Nice picture but I see both odd and even numbers ending the license plates. Up here the odd numbers could get gas one day and the even the next. If you had letters on the end it was a-c-e &etc one day and b-d-f & etc the next. My best friend was selling gas then and it almost drove him crazy as people would want to fight regardless of their license number, so he just called the police and they had a cop sit there while he was open to make sure no one forced their way in. Then shortly after that he called the gas company to come pump his tanks and he took out the pumps and quit the gas business and just keeps the garage open now. And believe it or not, for over a month after he did that he still had people come in wanting to know if they could get gas and there were no pumps at all on the islands, just the holes where the gas lines had come up to them.

Jamo, Ron, was that pic taken during the so-called "gas crisis" of 1974?

I remember driving from Bakersfield to Okrahoma in a '72 Vega with a 10-gallon fuel tank and cruising the sides streets of Amarillo, TX on a Sunday afternoon trying to find a gas station that was open!!!

Finally found a guy that was trying to sell all his Premium so he could call in a load of Regular.

I remember that Arizona was a Loooong state at the new (enforced!) 55MPH speed limit.

What a joke. That is just our politicians trying to look "tough on oil" companies. Its even worse than the "windfall profits" tax the house & Senate have talked about.

The gas crisis of 1974 really did not affect me. I live on a peninsula and there "was" a gas station (now closed). Not that may people knew there was a gas station there. When I left for work or on the way home, I would always get the max amount I could. Longest line was probably 4 or 5 cars.

But as soon as I drove off the peninsula, the gas lines were 25 to 50 cars long.:LOL:

Oh, and I was driving my Olds 442 at that time (daily driver). Drank gas faster than my Cobra!

A Republican staffer called last night for a donation.....

I told the young lady that I will no longer continue to finance disappointment and as soon as the border is closed and oil wells are drilled they can count on my support.

Scott,
How the hell are you man?
Hadn't heard from you in a while. How are the markets holding up ythere for raw materials. I hear that the lumer orders have all but stopped. I hope your team is still able to work.

Ron61 05-21-2008 05:22 AM

Jamo,

Now that is a nice tree. The Forest is very similar to a place up in Lassen Park that I use to go to just for the peace and quiet. You had to walk about a mile and very few people ever went into that area.

Looks as if you all had a great time at the WSCB. The pictures poster were great.

Edited To Add: That has to be a real tree as I can't fine the Made In china tag on it anywhere.

Maybe the legislators take it seriously but I am sure that the members of OPEC think it is a joke.

I read this morning that Japan has actually reduced their oil imports to 4.1 M barrels per day in 2007 from 5 M barrels per day in 1973. In the same period the US has increased oil imports from 6 M barrels per day to 13 M barrels per day.

Our government at work... they just don't get it...

They had mileage quotas in place after the mid seventies and let them slide... We should be achieving mileage in the 50mpg area by now...

They're mandating new light bulbs that are a nightmare to dispose of to save energy.
However, they're mandating TV's that require four times the energy to operate... Are they serious????

Mid 70's..........
Gas went from 35 cents to 65 cents a gallon during that period... I called the service station owners (at that time they were "service stations") everything vile thing I could think off and swore I'd never be back... I don't know how my kids are going to handle this...
Home heating will break people this winter... They're talking about prices doubling which means it'll triple... Fork em'

I'm rambling again,,,
