NBA Referee Scandal

OK, now that my post about NASCAR has generated some responses, what do you all think about the latest claims by that NBA Referee that they are told to call games so certain teams will win? I have seen a lot of games with some really questionable calls, but two things stand out to me.

1. How could they get that many referees to do this and keep quite this long?

2. It has always seemed that the home team gets the benefit of close calls. And not all referee teams call games the same way. Same can be said for baseball and football. It is a lot easier when watching a game to see things wrong than when you are down there among those giants and can only see a little of the action.

The favortism to so called superstars is terrible.

Two calls really stand out in my mind, and both involve Michael Jordan.

First one was when he was bringing the ball down court and tripped over his own feet. The closest opposing player was at least 6 to 8 feet away. They called the opposing player for a foul.

The second time was when another player was trash talking to MJ. Michael hits the other player. Guess who was ejected. Sure as hell wasn't MJ. It was the other players fault for getting in the way of MJ's fist.

Truthfully I have personally lost interest in all stick and ball sports due to the poor calls the officials make.

And don't even get me going on the salaries that these players make and then the cities tax their citizens to build statiums for them.

Corporate B.S.

I don't think most of us have a clue as to shenanigans that typically occur everyday at very high levels... political ...corporate..., we wouldn't sleep nights if we really knew ...or even admitted it to ourselves.

I think the old adage, "Follow the money", aptly applies. :JEKYLHYDE

People routinely kill for a few bucks. Guess what they'll do for $1,000,000 plus salary. The guys that get the big money for "innovative" leadership? They have ways of convincing little guys like me ...and you ...to do and support just about whatever they want. :o
Ve haf vays to make you tink...

Of course if two high-roller factions duke it out, we have two huge followings, both bitterly and senselessly divided. :(

Once in a great while we see through the veil. Most of the time not. The national games are more fun if we think they are real ....always have been.

Nothing new. Just thought I'd tug at my leash a bit. ;)

On an upbeat note, we are finally getting enough rain around here. :MECOOL:

Bill,

You were right on top of it for sure. I was kind of hoping that more would come out and we could see if more than just that one referee was involved. His betting on the game he called is sort of like the Pete Rose thing. I guess this means he is out of the referees hall of fame.

I would not believe anything that the crooked ref says. He is just trying to spread the blame.

Ron61 06-13-2008 05:35 AM

:D

Warren,

From all of the crying you did about the way the first game of this years playoffs was called, have you now decided that since the Celtics have it won the calls were correct? http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/3112/sorry.gif

Warren-i intially agreed with you.But please explain how his allegations match perfectly several times. And the BS calls during the playoffs last year when the Suns were playing in Dallas(i think).

Everybody b itches about the refs "calls" in basketball. I just do not think the scandal goes any further than the one bad ref. He is facing up to a 25 year jail sentence. He could have made those comments months ago but waited until the NBA finals to make the claims. Sounds like a desperate man trying to drum up some controversy so "maybe" he could be an informant to get a reduced sentence.

Anybody that watches a game could drum up a false controversy against any of the refs in basketball. A ref could call a foul on every trip down the court, but they know that would kill the game. So they let the really ticky-tack stuff slide.

Ron - you know the Celtic are the superior team and the LA Fakers are circling the drain.:LOL: Granted that the refs do make mistakes (humans are not perfect), but I doubt there is more than the one bad ref.

I could be wrong, but just my opinion. Of course, it helps when your local teams are on top of all major league sports :D Go Red Sox, The Patriots rule and the Celtic are finally back to form after 25 years of crappy teams. :MECOOL:

I thought Belicheat & the patriots got their a$$es whupped by the Giants.

Back to the topic-everything he says matches perfectly. In order for you(and others to be correct in that he is/was the sole issue, this would have to be co-incidence.Something at right here.

Whupped? You must have watched a different game. It was a very close "score" only because the Patriots played lousy, and they gave the game to the lowly Giants.:LOL: The Giants defense beat the Pats offense line like a scrambled egg.:LOL:

So what if what the ref said "matches perfectly" in your eyes. I could easily come up with a "referee scandal" based upon my view of the game. Its not too difficult to lie ... but to PROVE it will be difficult.

Heck, I could develop a "referee scandal" that the Super Bowl was fixed by the refs so the Giants would win. Would anyone believe me? No way. But if I were a disgraced felon who was a former NFL referee caught cheating, then many people would believe any crap that came out of my mouth.

Warren,

Actually I figured the Patriots played lousy because they had taken their camera way from them before the game. I am glad that i made my $5 bet on the Giants. Have they thought about trying helmet cams yet?

"Matches in my eyes"?What planet are you on?It matches in the eyes of anyone with intelligence that reads the article.

Please post some more of your semantical Patriot loser BS.It's more entertaining than the ref scandal. The Giants have the ring for last year.:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL: :LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL: :LOL::LOL::CRY:

:3DSMILE:

The Patriots are their version of the Lakers. Choke when it comes down to the big game. And not even intelligent enough to blame it on the referees. Oh well, they still have the Red Sox who are looking good and without any umpires helping them. so far!!!. :JEKYLHYDE
