Cobra Bill.
I agree we are all Americans but a few of your statements are not correct. The most oil sold overseas from Alaska was 7%. It actually makes sense at times because shipping costs nets the US more value than what it costs to purchase the oil elsewhere. The Alaska Oil is considered sour but only mildly so. It is not a poor quality oil which you can tell by the price they get for it. Recently it was over $140 per barrel. As for the government not getting anything for the leases. As an example the company I worked for payed 318 million for a lease offshore California back in the 80's and spent about 2 billion total to develop it and then never made back the investment. The oil companies have paid billions for leases. They also pay royalties, income taxes etc. Most of the millions of acres of land that you talk about have been picked over for years. Some are in development and some are non productive. You are correct that IF oil stays at $140 per barrel many of these leases are now viable. However, in the past oil prices have not remained high. Oil companies have gone through many booms and busts. I retired because I got tired of laying folks off because of low oil prices. The company I worked for is spending more on exploration and development than the profit they make. By the way the major oil companies do not control much oil these days. As I remember it's about 5%. Most of the oil is owned by the governments that don't like us. I actually think high oil prices are what we need to get us off our duffs to conserve and develop alternate fuel sources. We need our own energy sources so we are not dependent on countries that don't like us. However the amounts of energy needed are mind boggling. So it won't be easy. So for the interim opening up the the North Slope and all offshore areas while developing alternates is the way to go. |
Point taken, though being called a maggot is not exactly a friendly gesture!
And for your information I was not drafted I volunteered! And just what kind of Christian do you call your self, and who's Bible do you read? Most I find are not very Christian like! The reason congress has such a low approval rating is a little procedure called filibuster, the republicans have all but shut down congress using the filibuster an un-presidented amount of times. So to the uninformed it seems they get nothing done, Let's see I think the Republicans wanted to use the nuclear option when the Democrats wanted to filibuster for a judicial nomination. This was a well known plane by the republicans to make the democratically controlled house appear like they cant do anything. I do have to hand it to the conservatives they know how to play the game! But its a deceitful game and they have a lot of folks suckered into there deceit and treachery! Quote:

I think we should cut oil production. That way the price would come down.
Or could the opposite be true? **) |
OK I stand corrected on those points, and I do agree we need to get off our duffs and come up with an alternative fuel source, We are Americans, and there's nothing we cant do if we put our minds to it. As for drilling of the north slope, I'm not apposed to it we have come a long way in how we do things on fragile ecosystems, and I agree the high price is not a bad thing it will get us moving in a direction of energy independence, but we will never drill our way out of this mess.

There are a few things you can count on happening when you challenge liberal ideology: 1) They become enraged. 2) They attack religion 3) They assume others lie as much as they do. 4) As they spew their venom, they offer nothing new. Bill, just because a company has been "given" land doesn't mean there is oil there. Yours is an empty argument liberals are using to deflect the issue - much as in "10 years" and "drop in the bucket". Leave it to a liberal to prefer a dry bucket. :3DSMILE: |

Bill, move to Europe. This guy is not going to let America become a stagnant pond like Europe without a fight so get used to it. ;) |
Ha! Good one, its not what I wanted, this is a result of the bush administration, I just agreed that it would no doubt in the end be a good thing! We might just get off our asses and do something.
Now if you think you are more of an American then I prove it! What have you done for our country! |
never said you did, I was commenting on another persons signature line ware he called liberals maggots.
1) So I was not challenged, just a rant. 2) I was raised Catholic, I grew up there is no GOD 3) I assume everyone lies in politics, even liberals! 4) Though I do not have the technical ability to get us out of this mess, drilling more will not help. And finally no it does not mean there is oil there, but there are many wells that did come through they just would not be a profitable to the oil companies at the time. Leave it to a conservative not to read everything. Quote:

Ok...I forgive you...

Bush
Blaming Bush doesn't solve anything. Where do you think we would be with Kerry in charge? Worse yet if Bush and Cheny said to hell with it who would be in charge? Do you really want this country ran by the likes of Pelosi?

Grandchildren
Well my grandson just came over. I have promised to read him a book by Ted Bell titled Nick of Time. This book is about the kind of heroes I want my grandson to learn about.
He is only six and already understands that if you have a whole lot of something it isn't worth as much as something else that is harder to acquire. I wonder if he can understand that when certain parties in the government want to tax everything to raise more money for more government so when the price of that product goes up so does their cut. I'm sure he does, if not I'll teach him. He also knows if HE catches a fish out of pawpaws pond we will have fish for supper. Some will understand this some won't those that don't are usually the problem. |
This is the one thing we all have in common, that's a great car!

Nice car, my Grandson is helping me with mine. I'm off tomorrow so we will spend some time learning about more tools and how to use them. Don't want him to have to depend on the Libs all his life.

That's great that you get to have your grandson help you, and that you teach him about tools! But teach him to depend on Americans to always do the right thing, not an ideology.
