Wooden body Bronco

I was at a car show today and actually saw and touched a Ford Bronco with a body built out of cherry. The trim was oak. It was certainly something different. The body shape looked like original. The guy claimed it is 300 lb lighter, but I do not see how, as the wood is fairly thick.

Go into the photo gallery and click on the pictures and they will open up. Honestly the pictures do not do it justice. It is quite beautiful when standing next to it. Is there a cherry Cobra in the future?

Apparently there are some Jeeps made that way too.

Looks good, but it has to be heavier than the original. At least you would think.

Do you guys know what cherry wood costs???? That thing must have cost a fortune to build! And as for wooden roll bars.......

Well, at least it will not rust out like 99% of all Bronco's ever made. Just hope he does a yearly termite inspection. **)

I like to work with wood but I can't see the point of this. Some people may just have too much time on their hands.

There was a picture in the paper here some time ago showing a Volkswagen Beetle from the late 40s that some guy had done all in wood. He did a great job but it took him a long time. I think he used a couple of different types of wood as the fenders and body were different shades, but it looked good and he drives it almost every day. Wonder what the insurance company thought about that.

Ron :)
