OH NO Joe!!!!

Biden garbles Depression history

Joe Biden's denunciation of his own campaign's ad to Katie Couric got so much attention last night that another odd note in the interview slipped by.

He was speaking about the role of the White House in a financial crisis.

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed," Biden told Couric. "He said, 'Look, here's what happened.'"

As Reason's Jesse Walker footnotes it: "And if you owned an experimental TV set in 1929, you would have seen him. And you would have said to yourself, 'Who is that guy? What happened to President Hoover?'"

LOL

When do gaffs like this cease being gaffs and become an indication of the actual ability of those writing the speeches/answers/press statements to do their job and those delivering them to think about it, and question/know when it is wrong. ? If something as simple as that can be screwed up - what will change later if these people are telling us of important issues relating to the Country? Will they just 'get smart' or 'choose to do it right' by magic? :(

FWB 09-23-2008 11:49 AM

lol, biden certainly is a colorful guy. always good for a few laughs.

Great post Roscoe. I wonder if F. D. R. even knew that he was on television?

Ron

Doug,

With the way things are going they are probably trying to decide if they want to move to Canada or not.

Ron :)

That is my exact opinion of our elected representatives. A bunch of idiots, it takes them weeks and months for them to come up with a thought about anything. What do they have to call the DNC and the Gop to get their stances on every issue.

I have wondered the same.

I was always told it was a sign of protest (anti-government). (I can't find the picture of the Native Americans held up in their compound.)

but from

http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagtriv.html

"Yes, but only in an emergency. It means "Help Me, I am in Trouble!""

but then again... maybe an Obama supporter

The upside down U.S. flag is an official signal of distress. It is not meant to be, and is not officially recognized as any type of disrespect when so displayed for the right reasons. To the contrary, here is the relevant part of the US Code of Laws regarding how to fly the flag when in distress:

THE FLAG CODE
Title 36, U.S.C., Chapter 10
As amended by P.L. 344, 94th Congress
Approved July 7, 1976

§ 176. Respect for flag: No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

This was Joe's last term!, he was going to retire except for the surprise VP offer. I believe he now has second thought's about the VP slot?, especially with his comment about hillery being a better choice for VP!.

Well, it seems to me that displaying our flag upside down is not appropriate on this site - hey, Jamo - could you take the poster to the woodshed for us, perhaps wack him?

427 S/O 09-23-2008 03:55 PM

J.T., I kinda wandered in that direction when biden made that comment about hillery. It could very well happen?.

FWB 09-23-2008 04:04 PM

dont you think the country is in kinda distress? if it offends im sorry it is not
meant to. thanks roscoe for posting that, it was more comprehensive than i could have put it. its temporary, when i can actually sleep, after watching the country sink slowly. i will put some other pic there.

btw nice owls wtm...

J. T. Toad 09-23-2008 04:21 PM

Really?;)

"extreme danger to life or property"

I can't imagine having any time to post in the lounge under that kind of situation. :JEKYLHYDE:LOL:**)

FWB 09-23-2008 04:53 PM

the problems in the financial world are not some far off land. we have yet to feel any impact from this, when we do you will understand. will make the jimmy carter era a walk in the park. the dollars they are spewing now is only the start
i would estimate the gov,t has underestimated it just as they do all other estimates. if they are true to form add another 60 to 70 percent to the 700 billion proposed. it is a scary time. and my life and property ARE at stake just as everyone of us.

p.s. when you drive by Gotshalks and the mexicans are looting it
its here
