Paul Newman Dies of Cancer at 83
Paul Newman: Actor, Racer and Humanitarian
My sympathies go out to Joanne, his wife of 50 years. |
AutoWeek:
" He was a racer who supported his racing habit by acting. That's how he wanted to be remembered. Racer/actor Paul Leonard Newman, who managed to succeed in both fields, died Friday, Sept. 23, after a long battle with cancer. He was 83 " http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...8/newsletter02 |
RIP
He enjoyed life. |
Just saw that on the news. He was not only a great actor but a great race fan and driver. We need more like him.

A passage of significance. Apart from being a damn good racer and actor, he was a gentleman in the truest sense, a bona-fide humanitarian, and a man of genuine integrity.
Godspeed, Mr. Newman. You done good. |
I was fortunate to have seen Paul race at Lime Rock Park in CT, a true professional that wanted to be treated as a racer, not a celebrity. Not sure whether the following is complete, but his accomplishments with Bob Sharp Racing:
SCCA C Production Championships 1979 Paul Newman, BSR (280ZX) #33 SCCA GT1 Championships: 1985 Paul Newnam 300ZX Tubo 1986 Paul Newman 300ZX Turbo |
Thanks for entertaining me Paul, to be an actor and though of in favor, says enough.
|
He is already missed. Hope this time they used enough dynomite.
RIP Paul, Mike |

Hartford ( CT ) Courant:
" Paul Newman's racing endeavors were sparked during the filming of the 1969 movie "Winning." To prepare for the part of a driver of Indy-style race cars, Newman attended a racing school and found himself quite comfortable behind the wheel after extensive lessons " http://www.courant.com/news/custom/t...0,161493.story |
